Various Grumpyisms....

Some serious topics but no really serious talking or writing.    For instance, we are passing the first year's anniversary of the Japanese Earthquakes and the Tsunami disaster at Fukushima.   About a week after the event, El Gringo Viejo declared that this was a disaster of the highest order, but the doomsayers would be wrong.   It was also opined that the Japanese people would have things up and running again in very short order.   The notions, opinions, and forecasts expressed on these pages were accurate.  The Japanese people are a communitarian group.   They have a notion of their communion with their ancestors, they play a good brand of baseball, and they have a recognition of intelligent design in the Cosmos....whether it be revealed by Buddha, or through Shintoism or Taoism, or perhaps some denomination from among the Christians.

Within another three years, it will have been something sadly remembered, there will be monuments and shrines here and there, but the Japanese will have the entire area returned to a utilitarian, but pleasant, order.    Self reliance, communitarianism, and as another person who admired the Japanese people at there best once said about a great American institution.   "

Duty, Honour, Country".....   It all seems so far removed from the images of helplessness and sloth from New Orleans.    We do have steel in us yet.   Read this to the fourth graders.   Read this to the seniors are graduation.   We shall re-establish this conscious, certain, and vibrant zeal as Americans soon, or people like the one below-cited will become nothing more than a peculiar memory.   Although, it is true, that Old Soldiers never really die, the simply fade away.

General Douglas MacArthur's Farewell Speech
Given to the Corps of Cadets at West Point
May 12, 1962

General Westmoreland, General Groves, distinguished guests, and gentlemen of the Corps. As I was leaving the hotel this morning, a doorman asked me, "Where are you bound for, General?" and when I replied, "West Point," he remarked, "Beautiful place, have you ever been there before?"

No human being could fail to be deeply moved by such a tribute as this, coming from a profession I have served so long and a people I have loved so well. It fills me with an emotion I cannot express. But this award is not intended primarily for a personality, but to symbolize a great moral code - the code of conduct and chivalry of those who guard this beloved land of culture and ancient descent. That is the meaning of this medallion. For all eyes and for all time, it is an expression of the ethics of the American soldier. That I should be integrated in this way with so noble an ideal arouses a sense of pride and yet of humility which will be with me always.

Duty, Honor, Country:
Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying points: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn. Unhappily, I possess neither that eloquence of diction, that poetry of imagination, nor that brilliance of metaphor to tell you all that they mean.
The unbelievers will say they are but words, but a slogan, but a flamboyant phrase. Every pedant, every demagogue, every cynic, every hypocrite, every troublemaker, and, I am sorry to say, some others of an entirely different character, will try to downgrade them even to the extent of mockery and ridicule.
But these are some of the things they do. They build your basic character. They mold you for your future roles as the custodians of the nation's defense. They make you strong enough to know when you are weak, and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid.
They teach you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success; not to substitute words for action; not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and challenge; to learn to stand up in the storm, but to have compassion on those who fall; to master yourself before you seek to master others; to have a heart that is clean, a goal that is high; to learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; to reach into the future, yet never neglect the past; to be serious, yet never take yourself too seriously; to be modest so that you will remember the simplicity of true greatness; the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.
They give you a temperate will, a quality of imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a freshness of the deep springs of life, a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, an appetite for adventure over love of ease. They create in your heart the sense of wonder, the unfailing hope of what next, and the joy and inspiration of life. They teach you in this way to be an officer and a gentleman.
And what sort of soldiers are those you are to lead? Are they reliable? Are they brave? Are they capable of victory?
Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man at arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago, and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures; not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless.
His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me, or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast.
But when I think of his patience under adversity, of his courage under fire, and of his modesty in victory, I am filled with an emotion of admiration I cannot put into words. He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements.
In twenty campaigns, on a hundred battlefields, around a thousand campfires, I have witnessed that enduring fortitude, that patriotic self-abnegation, and that invincible determination which have carved his statue in the hearts of his people.
From one end of the world to the other, he has drained deep the chalice of courage. As I listened to those songs of the glee club, in memory's eye I could see those staggering columns of the First World War, bending under soggy packs on many a weary march, from dripping dusk to drizzling dawn, slogging ankle deep through mire of shell-pocked roads; to form grimly for the attack, blue-lipped, covered with sludge and mud, chilled by the wind and rain, driving home to their objective, and for many, to the judgment seat of God.
I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death. They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory. Always for them: Duty, Honor, Country. Always their blood, and sweat, and tears, as they saw the way and the light.
And twenty years after, on the other side of the globe, against the filth of dirty foxholes, the stench of ghostly trenches, the slime of dripping dugouts, those boiling suns of the relentless heat, those torrential rains of devastating storms, the loneliness and utter desolation of jungle trails, the bitterness of long separation of those they loved and cherished, the deadly pestilence of tropic disease, the horror of stricken areas of war.
Their resolute and determined defense, their swift and sure attack, their indomitable purpose, their complete and decisive victory - always victory, always through the bloody haze of their last reverberating shot, the vision of gaunt, ghastly men, reverently following your password of Duty, Honor, Country.
The code which those words perpetuate embraces the highest moral laws and will stand the test of any ethics or philosophies ever promulgated for the uplift of mankind. Its requirements are for the things that are right, and its restraints are from the things that are wrong. The soldier, above all other men, is required to practice the greatest act of religious training - sacrifice. In battle and in the face of danger and death, he discloses those divine attributes which his Maker gave when he created man in his own image. No physical courage and no brute instinct can take the place of the Divine help which alone can sustain him. However horrible the incidents of war may be, the soldier who is called upon to offer and to give his life for his country, is the noblest development of mankind.
You now face a new world, a world of change. The thrust into outer space of the satellite, spheres and missiles marked the beginning of another epoch in the long story of mankind - the chapter of the space age. In the five or more billions of years the scientists tell us it has taken to form the earth, in the three or more billion years of development of the human race, there has never been a greater, a more abrupt or staggering evolution. We deal now not with things of this world alone, but with the illimitable distances and as yet unfathomed mysteries of the universe. We are reaching out for a new and boundless frontier. We speak in strange terms: of harnessing the cosmic energy; of making winds and tides work for us; of creating unheard synthetic materials to supplement or even replace our old standard basics; of purifying sea water for our drink; of mining ocean floors for new fields of wealth and food; of disease preventatives to expand life into the hundred of years; of controlling the weather for a more equitable distribution of heat and cold, of rain and shine; of space ships to the moon; of the primary target in war, no longer limited to the armed forces of an enemy, but instead to include his civil populations; of ultimate conflict between a united human race and the sinister forces of some other planetary galaxy; of such dreams and fantasies as to make life the most exciting of all time.
And through all this welter of change and development your mission remains fixed, determined, inviolable. It is to win our wars. Everything else in your professional career is but corollary to this vital dedication. All other public purpose, all other public projects, all other public needs, great or small, will find others for their accomplishments; but you are the ones who are trained to fight.

Yours is the profession of arms, the will to win, the sure knowledge that in war there is no substitute for victory, that if you lose, the Nation will be destroyed, that the very obsession of your public service must be Duty, Honor, Country.
Others will debate the controversial issues, national and international, which divide men's minds. But serene, calm, aloof, you stand as the Nation's war guardians, as its lifeguards from the raging tides of international conflict, as its gladiators in the arena of battle. For a century and a half you have defended, guarded and protected its hallowed traditions of liberty and freedom, of right and justice.
Let civilian voices argue the merits or demerits of our processes of government. Whether our strength is being sapped by deficit financing indulged in too long, by federal paternalism grown too mighty, by power groups grown too arrogant, by politics grown too corrupt, by crime grown too rampant, by morals grown too low, by taxes grown too high, by extremists grown too violent; whether our personal liberties are as firm and complete as they should be.
These great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution. Your guidepost stands out like a tenfold beacon in the night: Duty, Honor, Country.
You are the leaven which binds together the entire fabric of our national system of defense. From your ranks come the great captains who hold the Nation's destiny in their hands the moment the war tocsin sounds.
The long gray line has never failed us. Were you to do so, a million ghosts in olive drab, in brown khaki, in blue and gray, would rise from their white crosses, thundering those magic words: Duty, Honor, Country.
This does not mean that you are warmongers. On the contrary, the soldier above all other people prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war. But always in our ears ring the ominous words of Plato, that wisest of all philosophers: "Only the dead have seen the end of war."
The shadows are lengthening for me. The twilight is here. My days of old have vanished - tone and tints. They have gone glimmering through the dreams of things that were. Their memory is one of wondrous beauty, watered by tears and coaxed and caressed by the smiles of yesterday. I listen then, but with thirsty ear, for the witching melody of faint bugles blowing reveille, of far drums beating the long roll.
In my dreams I hear again the crash of guns, the rattle of musketry, the strange, mournful mutter of the battlefield. But in the evening of my memory I come back to West Point. Always there echoes and re-echoes: Duty, Honor, Country.
Today marks my final roll call with you. But I want you to know that when I cross the river, my last conscious thoughts will be of the Corps, and the Corps, and the Corps.
I bid you farewell.
Douglas MacArthur
General of the Army

Revise and Extend My Remarks

SPECIAL NOTE:  On this particular blog entry the OROG will have to have Google Chrome and the most recent up-date of the Adobe Flash Player in order to see the clip of Miriam Martinez's you-tube television news interview.   It is very brief.

For all those OROGs and passing visitors who know that El Gringo Viejo is a daft and deranged old curmudgeon preaching lunacy to empty pews, please consider the following.   It is a phenomena that has been pregnant for quite a while, and the time of birth is approaching.
The two Latin folks who have recently changed into the Republican line-up down here along the border are each interesting personalities who bring interesting re-design into the political complexion.   For many years, since around 1933, the Lower Rio Grande Valley has been in a Rip Van Winkle slumber.   Texas was a Confederate State.  All issues were settled in the Democrat Primary.   Local elections for State Senator, State Representative, County Judge, County Commissioners, Sheriff, Tax Assessor Collector, County Court at Law Judges, Constables, and even State District Judges, District Clerk, and District Attorney were settled in the Democrat Primary Election.   There was never much surprize when the vote total for the Democrat Primary exceeded substantially the vote total for the General Elections.
Texas voted Republican for President in 1928, because the liberal elitist Hoover was thought to be a better choice than the conservative Democrat Smith.  That was because Texans were afraid that Smith might be forced to kiss the Pope's big toe and require that everyone else in America do the same.    After that, the "conservative" Texans committed serial dumbass by voting for Roosevelt four times and Truman once.   Then things became dicey.   Eisenhower gained Texas's electoral college delegation twice, thereby creating the first wiggle in the Wall.   Kennedy barely carried the Republica Texana, by 42,000 votes in 1960.    Nixon almost won the State against Hubert Humphrey and George Wallace in 1968 and then carried it by 2 X 1 against McGovern in 1972.
After that time, local Republican activity began to spread.   The stale Democrat Party had drifted left into the hot-pink zone of the political thermometer.   The conservative Democrats who had souls were tired of the other Democrats who would vote for McGovern and then mumble and stumble around about "the nigras"....people who were either Klanners or so lazy and stupid that they believed the Klanner Way, but were too cheap to buy the robes and shoe the horses.
So, each day, each hour, in small towns, in large cities, in rural areas the White folks who were philosophical conservatives but had tired of  the bifurcated, dysfunctional Democrat Party that was simultaneously dedicated to hating "nigras" and loving socialism...neither faction representing in any way their true orientation....began to move into active Republican membership and participation.  Jim Collins, George H.W. Bush and others were being elected to the United States Congress in the late 1960s, and local races were being contested...IN THE GENERAL ELECTION...in many places throughout the Republic (of Texas).   The gates to "Fortress Democrat Texas" finally broke down completely in 1976 when Ronald Reagan challenged some dolt in the Republican Primary for President of some foreign country called The United States, and the Republican Primary turnout almost arrived at the level the the Democrat Primary.   From that time on, it was downhill for the Democrats.

“Inequality”, Miriam Martinez said, is what prompted her to make the difficult decision to change parties and become a Republican before the upcoming District 41 elections.
New to the political game, Miriam Martinez said she has seen her share of ‘dirty politics.”
From day one, when she ran as a Democrat in District 40, Martinez said she never received help from the Hidalgo County Democratic Party.
"The treatment that I got from Dolly Elizondo was pretty unfair," Martinez said.
Once the redistricting maps were finalized, Martinez was pushed into District 41 and pitted against democratic newcomer Bobby Guerra.
"I saw a lot of abuse of power and my chances weren't equal,” Martinez said. “It was not an equal playing field."
The change would give Martinez a chance to push through the primary election and get on to the November ballot.
"I feel confident that now there is opportunity for whoever runs in District 41." said Martinez
Action 4 News took Martinez’s claims to Dolly Elizondo, chairperson for the Hidalgo County Democratic Party.
She said Martinez is using them as a scapegoat because she has been jumping around from district to district.*
Elizondo told Action 4 News, it is her job to guide candidates through the election process and said she did offer help to Martinez in the beginning.

*The statement by Dolly Elizondo of the Hidalgo County Democratic Party is patently misleading and purposefully incorrect, except the part about "in the beginning".   When she found out that Miriam was more like a Mexican Partido de Accion Nacional type of "hispanic", Miriam became personna non-grata.   Besides, the search had already ended in favour
of  a Planned Parenthood, pro-welfare "hispanic".
In these times, we have gone back to the future.   Except in certain severely "urban" situations, almost all local issues are settled now in the Republican Primary.   Southernmost Texas is an exception where the Latins have been led into the dark-alley, dead-end of a party that vigourously attempts to enslave as many as possible into the non-English speaking,  public assistance environment.
The business community, until very, very recently enjoyed the prosperity brought on by the prison building and the slavery to food stamps, AFDC, Section 8, free lunch, breakfast, snack, and summer meals, Head Start, utility subsidy, public housing, medicaid, etc.    The schools are proud to produce illiterates who have to be supported by the dole, and they are proud of their baby-mother programs.
But, this is Texas....this is America....and even this diabolical plan put forth by the Democrat elitists to segregate the brown, unwashed inferiors from their private clubs and subdivisions did not really work.   There was, is,  and always will be a self-sufficient colonial and immigrant group of Latins in South Texas.   By the end of the 1850s that group was totally outnumbered by the English-speaking arrivals.   Only pockets, like Laredo, Rio Grande City, Roma, Benavides, and a few other demographic islands were composed of a majority of Spanish-language people.   Almost all the Latins in those days were either white or almost totally white in terms of racial origin.   These people remain, and, in spite of the best efforts of the Democrats, there are still those of the immigrant group who follow the path to Americanism.   One can review the casualty lists from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Oddly, since many of the people who came into southernmost Texas were from Republican areas of the North in the United States, the frontier became a pocket of Republican people surrounded by Democrats in the northern 90% of the State, and God knows what in Mexico. The political environment was, in any regard, a marble-cake of intriques betwixt Republicans and Democrats, Latins and Anglos, with alliances for and against each group swirling like two tom-cats fighting inside of a tornado.
Finally, after the Good Government League (Republicans) almost made Hidalgo County and other places safe for Democracy and destroyed the A.Y. Baker machine in the 1930s, everything seemed to be in order.   But never underestimate the power of Hudson Valley Elitists.  Franklin Roosevelt and his lackeys, like Lyndon Baines Johnson pretty much re-extended the Democrat control throughout Texas and into the frontier, with the "Recovery" and the WPA and the New Deal.  Texas developed the "two-party Democrat Party", combining conservatives and socialists in one political party.   God help us.
When the New Deal didn't work, they tried World War II, and that seemed to help.   Although Hidalgo County lost over 350 dead in that War (of a population of 140,000) it did change a few things to the better.   Active Latin participation in the electoral process through the GI Forum, the Catholic War Veterans, and the like was good, but they tended to group off into the Democrat area of the spectrum, where almost all remained until recently.

NOW, FINALLY TO THE POINT:
Miriam Martinez is an advertising agency owner of some note here in Hidalgo County.  She is from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico.   She has worked with UniVision and TV Azteca in Miami and New York.  She has studied in the best schools in Reynosa and Monterrey and has university degrees in business and related topics.  She emigrated to Texas several years ago as a legal resident alien.   She recently gained her American citizenship and has been a productive member of the community for a significant period.   She wanted to go into politics, but after several attempts to register with the Democrat Party as a candidate for State Representative from the 41st district, she finally gave up and filed as a Republican.   It was the Democrats fear that she would run in a 3 to 2 Democrat district and then change parties, banking on her good works to change the attitudes in her district to the point that she would then be able to make the district Republican from the inside out.   The district is approximately 90% Latin.

Miriam is an attractive girl, very sharp, and has laid out a platform of continuation of the Texas policy of no state income tax, no increase in the sales tax, and a freeze on increased State expenditures of any kind.  She has a Roman Catholic catechism, and is known as a true and honest person.   Oddly, she might be a little too pretty and a little too stylish....but then again, maybe not.    She has Ricardo Montalban English and the poise of class and social grace by birth and breeding that will serve well in combat.   The Democrats will come after her with hammers and tongs (sickles?), but the times...they are a'changin.   Remember the fat little butterball "nobody", grandson of the Democrat Icon Sissy Farenthold,  who destroyed Solomon Ortiz in the general elections of 2010 for United States Representative.   Ortiz was a 16 term incumbent.   A Latin Democrat in a 3 to 1 Democrat district running against a tubby Republican Episcopalian.   They slimed Farenthold up one side and down the other with lies and demagoguery of the worst sort....and they lost.
District 41, primarily centered in McAllen....almost entirely lower-middle class, upper middle class, skilled blue-collar, and a few rich folks would seem to be a Latin district that would be correctly represented on the Republican side of the aisle in Austin.

Enter now also State Representative J.M. Lozano, also an emigre' from Mexico, was a legal resident alien, applied for and was granted naturalized American citizenship, and  serves effectively as a State Representative before the Texas Congress for a district located in Cameron County, Texas.   The district is about 90% Latin, and has a ratio of about 4 to 1, Democrat over Republican.    Once again however, the district has a large concentration of lower-middle class, high-skill  blue collar, and upper-middle class Latins...a dangerous mix. These are not the pamper throwers.   These are the human beings...the ones in the National Guard, in the Army, and those who are quite as bright as those of us in the Army...in the United States Marines.   These are solid Latin folks who have considerable pride in their ancestry and origins and who have no difficulty in resolving that with being fully integrated and self-supporting in the American scheme of things.

Press Release - Lozano

AUSTIN, Texas — State Rep. J. M. Lozano said Monday he will switch parties and become a Republican, making him the second South Texas lawmaker to abandon the Democratic Party in what has traditionally been a blue corner of the state.
In a phone interview, Lozano said he plans to formally announce his decision Thursday in Austin and in his home district, which includes Kingsville and stretches along the Gulf Cost to the Rio Grande Valley, near the border with Mexico.
The move further pads the GOP House supermajority, giving the Republicans 102 of 150 seats. But the Legislature is not set to meet again until next year, meaning his switch will matter only if Gov. Rick Perry calls a special session — something Perry says he has no plans to do.
Elected in 2010, Lozano filed for re-election as a Democrat on Nov. 30, just three days after the filing period opened. A second filing period has begun, however, after a legal battle over the Texas redistricting maps delayed the state's primary until May 29.
Lozano's district was altered significantly by maps drawn by the Republican-dominated Legislature, but those maps may change again based on the forthcoming decision of a federal court in Washington. The Texas Democratic Party says no other Democrat has filed to challenge Lozano.
Lozano said his decision had less to do with redistricting and more to do with his support of oil and natural gas exploration, his opposition to abortion and other conservative convictions popular with his constituents.

Lozano spokesman Craig Murphy said Lozano was persuaded to switch following conversations with George P. Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush.
"My job now is to let the Hispanic community know that our values are welcome in the Republican Party," he said.
Lozano becomes the third Democratic state representative to change parties in less than 18 months. In December 2010, Rep. Allan Ritter of Nederland, east of Houston, became a Republican, as did Rep. Aaron Pena, who represents the Rio Grande Valley community of Edinburg.
Pena has since announced he's not planning to seek re-election this year, however, after he said the redrawn voting maps made it impossible for a Republican to win in his district.
South Texas has traditionally been a Democratic stronghold, but Lozano said the state party leadership ignored the issues most important to him. The owner of a trio of chicken wing franchises, Lozano was born in Mexico and became a U.S. citizen at 6.
He said he was persuaded to change parities after a conversation this week with George P. Bush, the founder of the Hispanic Republicans of Texas political action committee. He is also the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush.
"We talked about everything, our lives and how there's this misconception out there that the Republican Party is not welcome to Hispanics," Lozano said.
The Texas Democratic Party called Lozano's decision "unprincipled and cowardly."
"Just 15 months ago, Lozano was elected to office as a Democrat. The instant things got tough, Lozano jumped ship and joined a party that has betrayed his constituents," Chairman Boyd Richie said in a statement. "He's proven he has no core and stands for nothing but his quest to grab and hold power."

Representative J. M. Lozano announcing his change to
Republican and his candidacy for re-election
Rep. Lozano is a conservative, small business supporter and private-sector solutions sort.  He may well be the match and that volitile population above-described may be the gunpowder barrel that brings another Republican seat into the mix in Austin.  Republican legislative presence of the Republic of Texas is presently just over 2/3's GOP in both Houses.   We have all the other Statewide offices as well....filled mainly with poofie moderates....but they have to go to the saloons where their Country Club Republican friends hang out, so we let them be the poofies they are.

Efforts are underway to try to convince Aaron Pena, who changed parties from Democrat to Republican during the last session, to file again in his new district.   But he seems recalcritrant, almost as if "My wife says I have to go back to practicing law and making some money." was a true statement.   State Representatives and Senators in Texas make about 7,200 dollars/year and certain basic considerations (800/month for a domicile if they live 90 miles from Austin...things like that.   It's a pretty spare piece of bone by US Congress standards).   Republicans have to be ultra-extra-double careful as well about their private relationships and campaign funding because a Republican will be filed on by the Travis County DA and  convicted of a serious misdemeanor or felony....for following the  law...while a Democrat will never be charged....Tom DeLay is an example.   This is not a joke.
There is an exception. Kino Flores, a Democrat, was charged and convicted of misappropriation and improper gifts and improper handling contribution of campaign funds.   Oddly, he was a South Texas Latin Democrat who freqently broke ranks and/or actively helped pass Republican sponsored legislation.   It was known that the Democrat leadership was out to get him and that they did not consider him to be a "real Hispanic".    He had done nothing except a lesser form of what all the hard-core Democrats did, do, and are still doing.

Now you know the rest of the story.  And the background of the Story.

Elvis can sing, everybody listens, but the political classes do not hear

PLEASE ENJOY THE SONGS AS YOU GO.   THEY ARE INTEGRATED WITH THE MESSAGE MORE OR LESS.   IT WON'T TAKE LONG.  IT'S THE SAME SONG, BUT DIFFERENT PRESENTATIONS....DIFFERENT STAGES OF ELVIS

Elvis can sing "In the Ghetto",...everybody listens....but the political classes do not hear
Elvis, early years, family shots

Take faith all.   In the Lower Rio Grande Valley, one Latin Democrat changed parties during the last session of the Texas Legislature.   Now, another has changed parties and will run as a conservative Republican in a Cameron  and Willacy Counties district at the very tip of deepest South Texas.  People are trying to convince the one who changed parties to go ahead and run again now that the districts maps have been established.
Texas, you see, is one of those terrible Confederate States that must have its election processes reviewed by enlightened Yankees who run elections really, really fair and honestly.  All good is in the North and all evil is in the South, don't you know.

On top of that, there is a new Republican, very well educated....an attractive girl...also Latin....who became tired of the Democrat Party County Chairman giving her the round-a-run, so she went and filed for one of the redrawn seats as a Republican.   This new Republican candidate is...frankly...much more conservative than the large body of Democrat voters in this area....she is almost into the Tea Party zone.  Abortion, welfare fraud, illegal and legal aliens voting, self-reliance, etc.   A real extremist like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman.
All of this allows El Gringo Viejo to arrive to his point.   The business of trying to draw districts that are  Latin or Anglo or Negro is silly.   First of all, it violates the Sacred Law that the Yankees try to push down our throats that "Everybody is equal".   If in fact everybody is equal, then districts could well be drawn by computer scans of census tracts.   Just program the number 30,000.000 people  divided by 32 Congressional districts, and boom....after scanning over enough census tracts to come up with 950,000 people, we have District I.  Repeat 31 more times.
Also, the idea that the same government that requires complete racial and ethnic disregard in all matters suddenly comes up with the idea that we have to have X-number of Negro districts, and Y-number of Mexican districts, and then by default Z-number of Anglo districts.   All of this carries over into the State Representatives and State Senators as well.   It also reaches deep into the configurations of County Commissioners districts as well as city districts for school board and city council.

UNDER THE PRECEPT OF ENGLISH COMMON LAW, ONE FREE MAN IS EQUAL TO ANOTHER BEFORE THE LAW, WITHOUT DISTINCTION.   THEY MAY BE EQUAL IN NO OTHER WAY, BUT BEFORE THE LAW, AND IN THEIR WEIGHT OF VALUE AS A CITIZEN, EACH MAN IS EQUAL UNTO THE OTHER.   (El Gringo Viejo's  Ist Law of Natural Social Organisation)

Of course, the Anglo group, by and large, has no problem being represented by a Negro or Latin, so long as that individual has roughly the same philosophical orientation as the rest of the district he intends to represent.  The Reconstruction Government says, though, that Texas must have districts that are so heavily populated by Negroes that the only possible victor of a race for United States Congressman would have to be a Negro.    That has worked really well.       Everywhere there is a Negro representing a "Negro District" in America, we find a hell-hole of a distaster area of corruption, crime, decay, unemployment, baby-mothers, welfare, welfare fraud, litter, filth, graffiti, abandoned buildings, broken windows, and general decay.   This is good for the Democrat White power structure that actually runs those areas, because they can beg money from the Great White Father which is then introduced into the community and promptly blotted up by the Liberal White Power Structure.    The Poobahs, like the Mayor Daley's and Nancy Pelosi's tinky-dinkle a new "community center" or "outreach mecca' or some kind of a crumb for the "community".    Maxine Waters can run up to Congress after whatever last riot took place and demand 250 dollars for everybody in her district, because they couldn't make it to the welfare and food stamp offices during the riots and so they need their money.....!!!!    ????    This actually happens.   This actually happened.   But the corner wars, and the barrio gang wars, and the killing goes on.

Elvis can sing "In the Ghetto" ....everybody listens....but the political class does not hear.
Elvis and Lisa Marie
We have Negro Districts with Negro United States Representatives, and we get this rubbed in our faces:   Representative William Jefferson commandeering a personnel carrier from  the National Guard, and taking it from rescue duty so as to take him alone and personally to his house (in the rich white part of his district) where he has a freezer with 100,000 dollars in cash stashed....the product of a bribe paid by certain African interests.   But, the personnel carrier, a double rear-axle,  6-ton truck, becomes mired in the sludge of Rep. Jefferson's extensive front yard.  But, not to worry.  A man with no conscience and no moral sense simply goes and commandeers another National Guard truck to take him out of the flood zone, before and en lieu of any other people who were actually trapped.
This is the product of having a Negro represent a Negro district.   It helps all the Black people there, right?   Brilliant social engineering.   The Negro leaders become the thing that the white-trash Klanners said they would become, so everyone is happy.

And Elvis can sing "In the Ghetto"....everybody listens.....but the political class does not hear.
Elvis and Street Scene

What this finally comes down to is two things.   One, much of the Latin group is dispersed in its main areas into a fairly mixed up neighbourhood situation.  The more mixed up they are, the more intermarried with the Anglo group, the more they tend to vote to the right.  And. ergo, the less they can be identified as a group of people who have needs, issues, and concerns that are identifiably different from the Anglo group.    Therefore, what in the hell is an Hispanic or Mexican America district good for?
And the Black man would do better being in a substantially racially and/or ethnically mixed district, because it would mean that he would have at least two different people coming after his support instead of one old hag slum lord / Plantation master like Maxine Waters....ruling and deigning over the proles and serfs whom she thinks owe her everything they are and have.   So much for the new racism of the Intended Consequences of Voting Rights Act Nightmares and Fairy Tales.

Why so much Elvis?   Because Elvis Presley cared more about finding a substantial, real, and workable solution to the social dysfunctionality of the black living situation than any and all Democrats and Congressional Black Caucus people have ever cared.   Elvis wanted a cure, and the CBC and the Democrat hierarchy want to keep a herd of dependent people enslaved to public assistance so that Maxine and Sheila can live in the big house, and Charle Rangel can flop his walrus body down on a beach recliner in the Dominican and laugh about how he pulled it all off.

It is done.

Amanda Keeps "The Flukie"

OROGs should not dispair.   The Executive Committee has decided, in spite of everything, that Amanda can keep her "Flukie" award.

Amanda Clayton, due to the efforts of mean people who think that there ought to be something like an attempt to provide for oneself, is going to starve to death in the snow, along with her two children.   Since it is the my fault and your fault, El Gringo Viejo is trying to raise money to make up for her loss, since it our fault and the fault of George  Bush.
She has been booted off of the rolls of the slugs who expect other people to pay for their food, chips, candy bars, diet soda, twinkies, and bulk Gulf Shrimp.   We pray that she be spayed, sooner rather than later.
We also beg the intervention of the Goddess Nemesis to further her misery and cause the finding of the paternal agent in this parasitic mess.  Once found, he should be arranged to sing in the soprano section of the choir, and then put into the (orange) uniformed public service....cleaning the ball and chain around his ankle every night after returning from litter duty on the expressways.   Perhaps we could further punish him by forcing him to have supper with Nancy Pelosi at her home in San Francisco every third Friday.   Her Holiness could give him pointers about the finer points of Roman Catholic dogma and canon.

In this vein, the lottery where ever it might exist is a diabolical thing, custom made for the stupid, indolent, and addicted.   It is the best form of recovering welfare and income transfer payments so as to re-recycle the money into the digestive tracts of the indolent or to provide them shelter in hell-holes known as public housing and/or Section 8 and to pay for the delivery of baby-mothers' babies, and to pay for Obama's Unkie Onie's Thunderbird and malt liquor.

There would be no need for any of this madness if the systems of public assistance would shut down over the next 10 years. Politicians, food markets, banks, and the "poor" could find a better way to feed the "poor" without producing hourly train loads of un-fathered criminals in the process.    Americans, privately, would allow no one to starve or even go hungry.   Private agencies can quickly differentiate between those who are hungry and those who just like to eat.

Miss Flukie, aka-Amanda Clayton will be allowed to keep her Flukie Statue, because among her people it isn't whether you win or lose, it's how you game the game.

A Statistical Observation

Gallup's U.S. Underemployment Rate, Monthly Averages

El Gringo Viejo is a fairly good minor league social demographic analyst.   This is due to a bit of his studies at university.   The Gallup group, in its analysis of the labour market, has always been very thourough.   Their political polling has been manipulated at various times by their tendency to purposely overweight consumers, leftists, Democrats, and "minorities" in its samples.   While these tactics tend to skewer the results in favour of Democrat candidate instead of reflecting the opinion of the composite universe under consideration, it is still reiterated that their system for measuring the labour market is perhaps the best in use to-day.
The government statistical derivation process  uses an arcane, adjusted, subjective, interpretive process that can be manipulated by the judgement of the polling interviewer.   It allows for the "dumping out" of "inconvenient" data.   That is how, two months ago, the poobahs decided to dump 1,500,000 out of the labour force, thereby determining that since they no longer existed, they could not be un-employed.    They had simply been unemployed "too long".   Heck, who knows...maybe they're dead.   Maybe they were carried off by a sasquatch.   Or worse, maybe they were carried off by Barney Frank and Janet Reno.
The Gallup group does daily and rolling sampling.   The 30,000 sample is more than adequate for a universe of up to 500,000,000 members, statistically speaking.   So, if a right-wing crazy like the Gringo Viejo says that you can better trust Gallup than the once a month, weekly compilation being averaged up every month as practiced by the government, you can.   Are you going to trust a government product or a private sector product?   Normally one should trust the private job.   This is a good time to trust the private company.

Gallup's U.S. Unemployment Rate, Monthly Averages

Now, the rest of the Gallup report will be buried tomorrow by the MSM, so simply be aware that the unemployment rate is sharply on the increase.   The combined numbers of unemployed and those who are working part-time and searching for full-time positions is once again at the 20% level.   This does not count an estimated 8 to 10 million people who have drifted out of the universe of employment.
This is troubling to the extent that it is not even good news for El Gringo Viejo as something that will damage the Obama re-election effort.   It would be preferable to beat Obama simply because he is an America-hating marxist.    These employment figures make someone think that the economic observers, even on Fox Business Channel, are singing in the upstairs bar on the Titanic.  All the financial channels are convinced that happy days are here again and that the economy is on a hot doggity roll, bubba!   Like Yogi says, "I think they've been smoking Geitner's and Bernacke's Kool-aid.

Monarch of Mendacity, President of Petulance, King of the Conumdrum

US president Barack Obama in Mount Holly, North Carolina
Captain Conundrum, vapid Master of the Mendacious

If the "big oil companies" take off business expenses from their income tax calculations, that is termed a "subsidy".   But if we allow people whose average income is 180,000 dollars per year to buy a VOLT and take off 7,500 dollars from their final tax liability that is called an "incentive".
Actually, it is a conundrum constructed as only a bunch of arrogant, socialist control-freaks could do.   "Our EPA standards on coal will necessarily make electricity rates skyrocket in the years to come"....tee-hee...tee-hee-hee.   We really need to move the price of gasoline and diesel to European levels in the next few years.....right?   That's the plan.  So, fleshing this insanity out a little more, the same people who the President damns to Hell at every turn, the "millionaires and billionaires", are the only ones who can afford to buy a 50,000 dollar automobile (including State sales taxes, title, license) and they are the ones who have a 7,500 dollar subsidy to buy an auto with a 30 mile range (if the drivers use luxuries like headlights, ventilation fans, etc.).   This is an oil burning and coal burning vehicle with a battery that cannot be disposed of in any way that is approved by the same EPA that is trying to force people to buy the stupid thing to begin with....WHEW!!!    We're talking about big progress here.    It is more living proof that the White House is presently either an insane asylum or a operations war room under the command of Vladimir Putin, Raul Castro, Hugo Chavez, Jeremiah Wright, Bill Aires, and Maxine Waters.

This is not to mention that that the actual four billion dollar "subsidy" the President is talking about is directed towards people who have low producing, small wells on their own property.   They have wells that were self-financed or partnered with small oil operators and that commonly produce from one to six barrels of oil per day.  Those are the "big oil companies" who might have a "sawhorse pump" (my parents' name for the pumpjack) bobbing back and forth that you pass by when driving through Luling, Texas.    Those wells belong to Lula Belle McKlaferty and her retarded boy.    Lula and Jimmie have done alright since Jake died, because of the insurance, and because Jake did a clean out on that old well.   It cost a fortune....about 15,000 dollars....but the durned thing was so mudded up that it was bringing up more gypsum and brine than oil.
About a year before Jake crossed over to be with his parents, he called Jasper Blount, the fellow with the clean out rig, and they pumped a few tons of barite mud into that old well.  Jasper told Jake that it seemed to him the old well had been filling, because they were taking out a lot of black pipe.    Sho'nuff,  when they started up the pumpjack, the fill-tank started taking in two or two and a half barrels of oil a day.    Before it had been two barrels of brine and a lot of mud.    They were lucky if a half barrel a day floated up to the top, and that oil was pretty poor...lots of sulphur content too.

You know, the folks around Luling kinda figured that Jake was knowin' that he was doin' poorly.   Anyway, Bush and the Republicans passed a bill sayin' that the IRS would allow the small holders to take down the expense of the clean-out the next year.   That meant that Lula Belle and her boy would be in good shape with the tax man for three or four years.   And now look at her.   She's makin' about 150 dollars a day net off'n that old well, price of oil bein' what it is.    I guess that why she has Old Man Sanchez and his kids doin' that roof job on the back of her main house.

And that is the way it really was .... and is ....in the real world.
