A bit of humour.....serious humour....

__________________
Dear Readers:

The piece below-included is well written, agreed.  But, it is fundamentally illogical.

This is one of those compelling and clear statements of the problem, and its easy to get fired up about that problem - but then it just jumps off the track and asserts that for some reason (because he says so?) Donald Trump is the solution.

The third paragraph from the end acknowledges that Trump is not the ‘perfect candidate’. I’ll say. Unethical, unprincipled, untruthful, uninformed - have any of us ever seen a leader with that liability set succeed at anything? Would we want him in command of a ship? Head of a school? Why in the world do we think he’d be a good president?

Evidently the author thinks that when you have a serious problem the solution is to just turn to someone new to ‘go fix it’. Fire the team, the coaches and the manager - sit back and watch it all become great again.

OK, I’m a grump on this

regards,
Jack

The New Yorker (?) on Donald Trump

Could not confirm if this was really in the New Yorker, but a good piece. The New Yorker on Donald Trump.  The author is not known to me, but he is articulate, ---No matter your favorite candidate this article is an interesting read.   The author is the political correspondent for Bloomberg and wrote extensively about Obama even before he was elected.
From:  The New Yorker

"Who is Donald Trump?"  The better question may be, "What is Donald Trump?"
The answer?  A giant obscene gesture from average Americans to the political and media establishment.

Some Trump supporters are like the 60s white girls who dated black guys just to annoy their parents.  But most Trump supporters have simply had it with the Demo-socialists and the "Republicans In Name Only."  They know there isn't a dime's worth of difference between Hillary Rodham and Jeb Bush, and only a few cents worth between Rodham and the other GOP candidates.

Ben Carson is not an "establishment" candidate, but the Clinton machine would pulverize Carson; and the somewhat rebellious Ted Cruz will (justifiably so) be tied up with natural born citizen lawsuits (as might Marco Rubio).  The Trump supporters figure they may as well have some fun tossing Molotov cocktails at Wall Street and Georgetown while they watch the nation collapse.  Besides - lightning might strike, Trump might get elected, and he might actually fix a few things.  Stranger things have happened (the nation elected an[islamo-]Marxist in 2008 and Bruce Jenner now wears designer dresses.)

Millions of conservatives are justifiably furious.  They gave the Republicans control of the House in 2010 and control of the Senate in 2014, and have seen them govern no differently than Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.  Yet those same voters are supposed to trust the GOP in 2016?  Why?
Trump did not come from out of nowhere.  His candidacy was created by the last six years of Republican failures.

No reasonable person can believe that any of the establishment candidates [dems or reps] will slash federal spending, rein in the Federal Reserve, cut burdensome business regulations, reform the tax code, or eliminate useless federal departments (the Departments of Education, Housing and Urban Development, Energy, etc.).  Even Ronald Reagan was unable to eliminate the Department of Education.  (Of course, getting shot at tends to make a person less of a risk-taker.)  No reasonable person can believe that any of the nation's major problems will be solved by Rodham, Bush, and the other dishers of donkey fazoo now eagerly eating corn in Iowa and pancakes in New Hampshire .

Many Americans, and especially Trump supporters, have had it with:
·        Anyone named Bush
·        Anyone named Clinton
·        Anyone who's held political office
·        Political correctness
·        Illegal immigration
·        Massive unemployment
·        Phony "official" unemployment and inflation figures
·        Welfare waste and fraud
·        People faking disabilities to go on the dole
·        VA waiting lists
·        TSA airport groping
·        ObamaCare
·        The Federal Reserve's money-printing schemes
·        Wall Street crooks like Jon Corzine
·        Michelle Obama's vacations
·        Michelle Obama's food police
·        Barack Obama's golf
·        Barack Obama's arrogant and condescending lectures
·        Barack Obama's criticism/hatred of America
·        Valerie Jarrett
·        "Holiday trees"
·        Hollywood hypocrites
·        Global warming nonsense
·        Cop killers
·        Gun confiscation threats
·        Stagnant wages
·        Boys in girls' bathrooms
·        Whiny, spoiled college students who can't even place the Civil War in the correct century... and that's just the short list.

Trump supporters believe that no Democrat wants to address these issues, and that few Republicans have the courage to address these issues.  They certainly know that none of the establishment candidates are better than barely listening to them, and Trump is their way of saying, "Screw you, Hillary Rodham Rove Bush!"  The more the talking head political pundits insult the Trump supporters, the more supporters he gains.  (The only pundits who seem to understand what is going on are Democrats Doug Schoen and Pat Caddell and Republican John LeBoutillier.  All the others argue that the voters will eventually "come to their senses" and support an establishment candidate.)

But America does not need a tune-up at the same old garage.  It needs a new engine installed by experts - and neither Rodham nor Bush are mechanics with the skills or experience to install it.  Hillary Rodham is not a mechanic; she merely manages a garage her philandering husband abandoned.  Jeb Bush is not a mechanic; he merely inherited a garage.  Granted, Trump is also not a mechanic, but he knows where to find the best ones to work in his garage.  He won't hire his brother-in-law or someone to whom he owes a favor; he will hire someone who lives and breathes cars.

"How dare they revolt!" the "elites" are bellowing.  Well, the citizens are daring to revolt, and the RINOs had better get used to it.  "But Trump will hand the election to Clinton !"  That is what the Karl Rove-types want people to believe, just as the leftist media eagerly shoved "Maverick" McCain down GOP throats in 2008 - knowing he would lose to Obama.  But even if Trump loses and Rodham wins, she would not be dramatically different than Bush or most of his fellow candidates.  They would be nothing more than caretakers, not working to restore America 's greatness but merely presiding over the collapse of a massively in-debt nation.  A nation can perhaps survive open borders; a nation can perhaps survive a generous welfare system.  But no nation can survive both - and there is little evidence that the establishment candidates of either party understand that.  The United States cannot forever continue on the path it is on.  At some point it will be destroyed by its debt.

Yes, Trump speaks like a bull wandering through a china shop, but the truth is that the borders do need to be sealed; we cannot afford to feed, house, and clothe 200,000 Syrian immigrants for decades (even if we get inordinately lucky and none of them are ISIS infiltrators or Syed Farook wannabes); the world is at war with radical Islamists; all the world's glaciers are not melting; and Rosie O'Donnell is a fat pig.

Is Trump the perfect candidate?  Of course not.  Neither was Ronald Reagan.  But unless we close our borders and restrict immigration, all the other issues are irrelevant.  One terrorist blowing up a bridge or a tunnel could kill thousands.  One jihadist poisoning a city's water supply could kill tens of thousands.  One electromagnetic pulse attack from a single Iranian nuclear device could kill tens of millions.  Faced with those possibilities, most Americans probably don't care that Trump relied on eminent domain to grab up a final quarter acre of property for a hotel, or that he boils the blood of the Muslim Brotherhood thugs running the Council on American-Islamic Relations.  While Attorney General Loretta Lynch's greatest fear is someone giving a Muslim a dirty look, most Americans are more worried about being gunned down at a shopping mall by a crazed islamic lunatic who treats his prayer mat better than his three wives and who thinks 72 virgins are waiting for him in paradise.

The establishment is frightened to death that Trump will win, but not because they believe he will harm the nation.  They are afraid he will upset their taxpayer-subsidized apple carts.  While Obama threatens to veto legislation that spends too little, they worry that Trump will veto legislation that spends too much.

You can be certain that if an establishment candidate wins in November 2016 … their cabinet positions will be filled with the same people we've seen before.  The washed-up has-beens of the Clinton and Bush administrations will be back in charge.  The hacks from Goldman Sachs will continue to call the shots.  Whether it is Bush's Karl Rove or Clinton's John Podesta, who makes the decisions in the White House will matter little.

If the establishment wins, America loses.

As most OROGs know, we prefer not to post ad hoc submission, but we frequently do if they arrive from our list of about eight submitters....ie - El Zorro, the Guards we have posted in Extreme Central Texas, our consulting physician whose family has whole communities named after his forbearers, etc.
This article comes from our agents in Extreme Central Texas who received it from other agents in the ether, and serves as a warning of the existence of  "New York Values".   It is drawn from a suspicious sounding underground magazine with a foreign sounding name...."The New Yorker".
Although people who have such values seem to enjoy saying that people should not be labelled and/or put into boxed and ribboned categories, his entire essay is written from the point of view of an unappeasable skeptic.   He is the kind of guy who freezes a conversation at the bar by saying, "Well, I am a Jew and I resent what your are insinuating about Jews and Judaism."    When the offensive clod responds,"Are you observant?  Have you been to church or temple for anything beyond a funeral or bar mitzvah in the last 20 years?   Do you eat langoustine a la brochette?"  the offended party says, "That's none of your business."  So....

The writer is also adept in his use of the English language and makes many good points, albeit loosely strung as one might find a very traditional Christmas tree decorated.  While a bit confused and busy, the tree is a pleasant thing to study and gaze upon.

He lists about thirty of the 50,000 or so saddle burrs that keep our horses aggravated.   Such other gentle misdemeanors as dumping Mubareck so as to impose Morsi upon the Egyptians might be a little more important than a parking ticket, for instance.

In order to avoid further bloviation, we think that there is a lot of glitter in the New Yorker's observations  and comments, and that much of that glitter really is gold.  Some of it is not, but most of it is.   Depending upon what the meaning of is is..

VERITAS VINCIT MENDACIUM

Last night, more even than the victory in Iowa, marked the change for which we had been waiting.  To wit:

The Obsolete Press and FOX News went out of its way to keep sounding the "It's Over" horn. Each and all took the opportunity at each "catch your breathe" moment to diminish Cruz and to a lesser extent Rubio.  Even this morning, a pseudo-conservative radio station in McAllen, during their morning programming pointed out repeatedly that Cruz had barely won his home State, and only won three States, and even then only by a plurality.
The ease of these deceptions, they think, is lain upon their knowledge that most of their audience, while more intelligent than the other audiences tuning in to AM or FM radio, are still dolts who can be dragged around by the rings in their noses.

The fact is that Cruz had not won three States;   he had won four.

The fact is that Cruz did not overtake Trump in the vote;  but Cruz did sharply gain in overall percentage of the delegate count, while Trump's share of said percentage sharply fell.

The fact is that the pundits failed to point out, quite purposefully, that Cruz enjoyed the best of the left-overs.   His second-place finishes netted two-score delegates.   The other fact is that, in spite of Trump's assertions and assurances, Donald's fortunes crashed and burned in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Alaska.  In said States, Cruz took the "premio gordo"while enjoying the extra benefits of a really convincing victory in Texas.  Three States and one Republic were carried by "that Mexican guy from Cuba who's a Canadian and can't be President".

To wit:

TRUMP         -     316 Delegates now   -   Gain: 234             Percentage increase:    172%

CRUZ            -    226          "                 -      "      209                             "                 1,230%

RUBIO          -    106          "                 -      "       90                              "                    563%

KASICH       -       25          "                 -       "      19                               "                   320%

CARSON     -         8           "                 -       "        3                               "                     60%

These figures are still a bit mushy, but they are derived from what El Gringo Viejo considers to be a worthy analysis by the New York Times.   That analysis is not reflected in the editorial staff's opinions nor in the fluffy and superficial reportage they, the Obsolete Media, and the FOX News operatives are pushing out the sewer-plant door.
The labyrinthine delegate distillation process lends to the necessity to do some "home brewing" as well, but we assure the OROG community and all readers outside of the association of Official Readers of the Old Gringo that if were err, we err on the side of self-injury.

Our point in all of this is simply that the overwhelming majority of the talking heads' and "experts'" predictions were off, either moderately or substantially.  A parallel and supporting point is that their prognostications were always off in their unbridled, slobbering adulation of Donald Trump and (Sir Edmund) Hillary.

So....Cruzcistas.....adelante con la Cruz....como simbolo de nuestra religion y filosofía  y como nuestro candidato a la Presidencia de la Union Americana.

The Decline of FOX News......FOX and FRIENDS Leads in the Way.

__________

This was the bottom.

The Chris Wallace interview of Ted Cruz combined with the ridiculing of Ted Cruz by the entire Fox and Friends morning crew, including the newly selected Barbie....Ainsley Earhardt....all for the purpose of building up a clown, casino developer/owner, blowhard, liberal Democrat as if he is the Republican Presidential Nominee-designate......
It is a sad thing to see Murdoch and Company fall off the tracks so completely.
It is the fear of the hinterland that causes them to shudder when looking over the American landscape.  Hickey people.  People who go to beauty shops, to bowling alleys, who drive trucks.   Teachers, doctors, plumbers.   Small business owners....some very small business owners....piano tuners....astronauts.

These people, according to Murdoch and Co. as well as the Obsolete Press, deserve to be protected from themselves and delivered to a professional flimflam man who makes Ross Perot look almost sane.    The notion that we could be delivered to such a clod makes this writer both furious with the haughty hosts of their pro-Trump shows like Fox and Friends and Chris Wallace's show with no watchers, and  with the dolts who think Trump can do or will do anything that would remotely solve any problem.

 So there....

Thinking about a change in scenery....
Seriously......

One Simple Act For Texas Independence

And try this on for size, Biden

"The history of nominations and confirmations of Supreme Court Justices in an election year does not bode well for the Democrats, since they are in a minority in the Senate. The most notable recent instance was the failure in 1968 to get a vote on Lyndon Johnson's nomination of Abe Fortas. Even though the Democrats also controlled both houses of Congress, they could not muster the votes in the Senate to stop the Republicans' filibuster of the nomination. And as related in this article, the last time a President was successful in having his nomination in an election year confirmed by a Senate controlled by the opposition party was in 1880."

The above is extracted from a fairly short analysis of the true nature of Supreme Court Justice nomination approvals by the United States Senate.  It is an excellent, much-meat-on-the-bone examination of the issue that seems to concern Mr. Executive Order and other Legal Purists of the community organiser race.

We urge that all Official Readers of the Old Gringo (OROGs) go to this link: Anglican Curmudgeon and scroll through the recent  postings. The first two are most important.  The second one will give the reader all the arms and ammunition necessary to intellectually destroy anyone of the Progressive Dolt Class-warfare Party in terms of this new Supreme Court Justice appointment issue.

Read all that you want, especially now, because there is an excellent academically advanced analysis of present day education and cultural negative inertia (my term) in the first article.   In quick order the OROG will find an article styled "Antonin Scalia - RIP", or perhaps you can connect by clicking upon this link:

Both Articles together might require two readings of 8 - 10 minutes total.  I frequently have to read these articles three times because I have more skull and less brain.   Happy Reading.

A WORD of ADVICE to the OBSOLETE PRESS and MOST of the RIGHTWING PRESS PUNDITS: Don't Count Donald Barnum Trump's Suckers Before They Are Hatched

__________________________

Lamentably, much of the supposedly rightwing press establishment appears  to (and continues to) have thrown in with the nouveaux Republican Saviour, Donald Barnum Trump. The fact is that Texas has 155 delegates to send to the floor of the Republican National Convention.

Cruz seems well-positioned to take a majority of the votes in the Republican Primary, which means that he would take 90% or more of that group of delegates into his column. Other wins and/or high finishes by Cruz and/or Rubio, all of which seem possible will augment the number that Donald Barnum does not receive.

In the case of Ted Cruz, he quite possibly can surpass the totals for the rest of the active candidate group, combined, come the 1st of March. It should also serve to underscore the mis-reading of this race by the Obsolete Press and even the Rightwing Press that is the fawning and "Oh! Wow! - ing" over the endorsement of Trump by Christi. In case the above mentioned talking heads, pundits, analysts, and commentators do not remember, Christi dropped out of the Presidential Nomination Circus after spending a score-million dollars and finishing below even Kasich and Bush.

Christi is not popular even in New Jersey and cannot, could not, and will not deliver New Jersey to the Republican column in November. Cruz has the backing of the President of the Republic of Texas, and the backing of the previous President of the Republic of Texas (recently vindicated in a recent overwhelming court finding of any wrongdoing against an abusive old, sow, drunk Travis County District Attorney's Office lackey - Perry had cut her out of a budget from the coffers of Texas due to a really, really ugly DWI escapade), and numerous other Conservative Republicans, including the Lieutenant-President of the Republic of Texas.

Concerning the reaction of the Obsolete and other Press fountains? Not a mention. While anything is possible, my own best thinking is that Trump has lost a lot of glow, and was grasping at straws by "rolling out" Christi as some kind of "good-luck charm" against his ludicrous campaign. Christi is not an amulet or a magic charm by any stretch of even the most imaginative political strategist.   The dolts do not cheer quite as loudly, the message becomes more and more narcissistic and childish. Many are uncomfortable that, for some reason, an almost non-existent membership of the Ku Klux Klan white-trash has come forth to help and rally support for Donald Barnum to build The Wall and force Mexico to pay for it.
(We insert parenthetically here that there are ways to "build a wall", and there is a way to involve Mexican officialdom to support and even assist in the establishment and maintenance of that "wall" in whatever form it might take.  The methods being proposed by Trump are summarily ridiculous, and would result in more damage than correction.   Deployments of personnel and walls of various types have served for naught during the past 10 or 12 years.  A larger and longer wall would only require wider patrolling in the Pacific  and the Gulf of Mexico by a minimum of 20 heavily armed, and offensive helicopter-gunship equipped Cutters.)

In any regard, it is now a real possibility that a couple of very probable first-place finishes and two or three delegate-collecting second-place finishes by Ted Cruz will derail the New York Values Express quite effectively.

THE HILLARY DILEMMA:

It is certainly upon all of us who can think beyond self and plunder to consider the devastation a Clinton presidency would cause the American Union.   Such a self-inflicted wound by the electorate would possibly end the last remaining vestiges of republican democracy from this part of the North American Continent, and perhaps the world.
The naming of one or two or even three national socialists or "progressives" to the Supreme Court of the United States would effectively finish any practice of English Common Law traditions or the notion that the American Constitution has any true modern relevance.

Secular Humanism and "Economic Democracy",  once in place and funded by an increasingly bold and rapaciously discriminating Internal Revenue "Service" will make short work of any remaining grandeur that might be associated with the old, self-reliant citizenry.   Trump is part and parcel of this.   He is either a Trojan Horse in his own right, or he is a lackey chosen to oppose (Sir Edmund) Hillary so that he can be torn apart by the Obsolete Press and controlling forces that manage most of the common news and information, and who control most of the financial resources so coveted by the elites and progressives.   Once both Clinton and Trump are actually nominated, there will be an avalanche of stories both true and not-so-true that will destroy Donald Trump.   It might well be the last meaningful election for several generations.....we could well be in for an Argentine, or Venezuelan, or Mexico (1920 - 2000) run of one-party rule and/or incessant bouts of demagogic Peronism.

The clouds darken and thicken.  Progressivism, Republican or Democrat, will quickly lead us to doom.   Pray for the liberation of the nation from the lesser instincts and the desires of many to obtain something for nothing.

We thank one and all for his/her attention.
