How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think" – Adolf Hitler 1937

Clinton ordered little black berets for the American military, and Bush failed to rescind the order.  A pox on both their houses.  The berets were made in Red China.

Are we to be surprise if, when we are allowed
to win an event or two, if the anthem to be played
is to be "Oh! How I love to carry dung to the dung
heap for Chairman Mao."
These are the frumpy, commie uniforms.

Now, we have the American Olympic delegation marching in the openning ceremony,  wearing complete outfits....made in Red China.

Outsourcing, Mr. President?    We have "In God We Trust" on our currency, Mr. President.  The Red Chinese have "We will use the organs of the round-eyed capitalist dog's children for transplant for our children.   The organs that are not usable we shall feed to the pigs" written in invisible ink.   The same ink they use to sign trade and treaty agreements.

Sorry, Dave.

We received a pass of the hand of serendipity yesterday.   We were in need of doing something that we have never had to do.   It will be necessary for El Gringo Viejo to be away during the entire period of the run-off in the Texas Republican Primary.   It will require that El Gringo Viejo actually reduce himself to filing for an absentee ballot by mail.   Yesterday, we called the county voter registrar, and asked the deputy to send an absentee ballot request application to our address.
    She was very nice and said it was as good as in the mail.   Imagine our surprise when, boom, an absentee ballot request showed up....that same day!!   Looking at the mailing carefully, it soon became clear that it was an interior mailing by a run-off candidate, running in the run-off of the Republican Primary.   "How advanced!" we thought.    The request for an absentee ballot has been mailed back already and El Gringo Viejo is a little more at ease.
     Oddly, and in this case truly ironically, the mailing had come from Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, the country-club approved Republican in the US Senate candidacy run-off.   We did not want his mailing to go to waste, so we will use the ballot he helped us to obtain.   It will, however be used  to cast a  vote for his rightwing crazy opponent, Ted Cruz.
     Lt. Gov. Dewhurst had just re-initiated his deceptive, mega-blitz misinformation onslaught against Cruz again.   He seems to be unaware that for every advertisement that runs, he probably loses another vote.   There is so much evidence on the internet and the outernet that contradicts, decisively, the things these advertisements are purporting that it makes the Lieutenant Governor appear to be a fool.   Sad.  Before the primaries, it had been my determination to vote for Dewhurst...but I wound up voting for Cruz.    Dewhurst will recieve my vote only in the unlikely event that he wins the Republican nomination so as to avoid the even worse alternative of having another Democrat Socialist in the United States Senate.   Incredibly, Dewhurst is down by 1o points at this writing....and falling.

New Miss Flukie Award Announcement

NEW MISS FLUKIE AWARD
named for a useless parasitic animal, known as a fluke, which is a member of the trematode group
of disgusting, slimy slugs.

FLUKE

THE FLUKIE IS AWARDED TO THOSE SPECIAL INDIVIDUALS WHO CAN, WITH PERFECT NARCISSISTIC, HYPOCRITICAL SELF-ABSORPTION CONDEMN ANYONE OR EVERYONE FOR A PRACTICE THAT HE or SHE PRACTICES. ONE MAY ALSO WIN A "FLUKIE" BY DEMANDING OR ACCEPTING SOMETHING TO WHICH THE WINNER HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT NOR JUSTIFICATION.

DEBBIE WASSERMAN SHULTZ

CHAIRMAN of the DEMOCRAT NATIONAL COMMITTEE
and CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE 20th
DISTRICT of FLORIDA, FREE THINKER EXTRAORDINAIRE
                     RECIPIENT OF THE LIFE-TIME AWARD AS A REAL LIVE
 FLUKI with OAK LEAF CLUSTERS FOR CHRONIC
MENDACITY, ARROGANCE, ILLOGICAL BLATHER,
AND HYPOCRICY UNDER NO PARTICULAR FIRE.

     This is our winner.   Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  She jumps on the bones of some Mormon dude because he has off-shore accounts.  She says that such a practice is terrible and shows that the Mormon dude is insensitive to the masses who pay no taxes and who want free food, free housing, free medical attention, and free pet birth control and grief counselling.   The problem, of course, is that Miss Debbie shovels money off-shore  as part of her portfolio.   When asked about the dufus expression in the above photograph, taken shortly after she had to affirm that she was taking food out of the mouths of baby polar bears and pre-kinder lesbian Eskimoes, she said that the garter-pistol she carries illegally just decided to discharge, hitting her in the foot.
     We continue to try to stay on top of the never-ending gift of Democrat National Socialist Workers' Party, but it is such an avalanche that my fingers become sore from typing.

Guns, Cars, and Windmills

A contributor to be named Later sent this in.
Do you have a gun in the house?
THEN THIS WILL BE GOOD TO KNOW!
     When I had my gangrenous gall bladder taken out and had to  spend 10 days in thehospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was asked if I had guns in the house.  My response was that if I did I would not tell them. So the below has some merit.
    FYI, I am passing this along... there are comments from two other people I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kinda slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask.
    Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so that no party has certain knowledge if the answer is yes, or no.   My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I, of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed.
     I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack.  The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare,
and probably everyone else.
     Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other
than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation.. One of the questions
on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My
answer was,  "None of your
business!!"
     So it is out there! It is either an insurance issue or government intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (as they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!
     Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners... Thanks, from a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer: I had a doctor's appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along. While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:
        1. Did Ifeel stressed?
       2. Did I feel threatened?
       3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?
     The nurse then informed me that if I had answered yes to any of the questions I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.
     To me, it seems like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement would probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument would John Q. Public have? Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner, veteran or not.   If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.    They are coming for us, so unless you're an ostrich, do not stick your head in the sand.........

YOU and I HAVE BEEN WARNED !

El Gringo Viejo weighs in with the fact that these observations are anecdotal, and therefore he does not use a bunch of them, either for publication or as a basis of research information.   However, this particular entry comes from an indirect source....passed through a direct source of greatest confidence, so it is hearsay of the highest quality.   It is also backed up by the fact that the nurse we had in home health care for my father-in-law during his last days did in fact ask me about whether there were guns in the house.   She asked upon her first arrival, essentially in a pro-forma way, so it gave me the impression that it was something she asked as a routine requirement.
      Perhaps due to the obviously debilitated condition of my father-in-law, she asked only that one question, and not the whole series.    We have to remember that the ATF of that time could have detained Vernon Howell at the WalMart in Waco without any problem.   But, since they were trading guns at the flea markets, it was somehow necessary to invade their compound with several hundred agents in full battle dress and array.    Oddly, when all the children were finally dead, the ATF and FBI went through the compound and found only enough guns to not even come up to number that would normally be found per adult in the regular Texas household.   The only automatic weapons used from the beginning through to the end of the engagement were those of the ATF.   And of course, the ATF had the advantage of Gen. Wesley Clark, the hero of the Battle of Mt. Carmel, and his authorisation of heliocopter support from Fort Hood to aid in the assault of some dull normal dumboes who probably could not have conducted an armed robbery of  a man hole cover in a ghost town.
      But, the gun-control nuts are not to be detained.   It brings to mind a man who was a highly placed elected official of a significant city in Texas who owned a very, very successful and large hardware store....with a large firearms, fishing, and ammunition section....had to finally close down his firearms sales, service, repair, siting, and ammunition section.    He said it became as if he had an ATF sub-station in his building permanently.   He had to hire two people just to handle the paperwork, and he still spent ten hours a week on the same matter at home.
     This gentleman is gone now.  He joined his son, who had been killed in Viet Nam a couple of years before this incident.  Most of the family is gone now, but El Gringo Viejo will never forget the passive lecture this man gave a friend and me at the restaurant where he was a member of the curgudgeonly coffee clatch.   His eyes glazed...and then blazed with that vicious anger that comes to a man when he talks about when was cornered, and in the right, but had absolutely no choice but to surrender, due to exhaustion.
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Next, we have to talk about the VOLT, the hope of years to come.   We have been assured that Obama saved the auto industry by destroying the bond holders' and preferred stock holders' assets in ownership and financing General Motors of old.  His transfer of a private company into the hands of the United Auto Workers was a deft piece of expropriation, to be sure.   It was far more massive than the expropriation of the foreign oil companies in Mexico in 1938 by Lazaro Cardenas.   The main difference is that Cardenas was only an anti-American, anti-capitalist socialist.   Obama is an anti-American, anti-capitalist marxist.    And....once again, tick - tock, tick - tock, as each day goes by.... the payout for any notion of recovery of Obama's "investment" in General Motors keeps edging over the horizon of reason.    The talking heads still use  53  -  57 dollars per share, common.   It is actually now more in the neighbourhood of 73 dollars. (It closed still lower to-day, between 19 and 20 dollars per share.)
      But, let El Gringo Viejo demonstrate how smart these people really are.   Obama, with a campaign fund running low on fuel, decides to start spending campaign money on attack ads in Texas.    Texas.   In July.  Does he or anyone in his campaign think that he can take Texas's electoral votes?   Ever?
      But he is aiming at people who are like the stupid woman who was used in an auto ad some years ago...the woman was positively hyperventalative, because the meter maid, also terminally stupid, had given her a "time expired" ticket, and written in the block that requests "make of auto",  the brand 'Mercedes Benz'.   The advertisement showed this woman, in full pre-faint, fanning herself, and howling...."Can you imagine!?  Can you imagine?"   Sales of that "look-alike" auto, I am sure, must have surged.....(?).
     We move now to the space-cadet who is telling me that she thinks that she has the greatest deal in the world and she never stops at a place that sells gasoline except to buy coffee.  Her VOLT is just the greatest ride she has ever had.   She seems to be just reaching the peak of the effects of some new upper or perhaps she has a solar-powered mariajuana-mister in her VOLT....she looks positively Woodstocked when she explains that she is going to take her savings from owning the VOLT, and, by golly, she's going to go to Hawai'i.    El Gringo Viejo sent her a note suggesting that she could have bought something more economical to operate at half the cost....perhaps a Kia, Mazda, Nissan, Ford, or similar....perhaps over 50 good choices....with better resale and insurability...that would not encumbered the "ecology" with an indisposable battery.   Shopping carefully, she could have pocketed or saved away two-thirds of the difference in cost, and had enough to take her two weeks off in Hawai'i along with the round trip airfare....or in her case....perhaps a train.
Sales increase, but Volt still fails to meet expectations
     General Motors is...oddly, selling poorly.... but their numbers are being held up into the mediocre level at least.....because of .....government fleet purchases.   Imagine that.   The VOLT continues to be the disaster that it is....but some of that is being fixed by literally shipping them over to the Red Chinese.   General Motors common stock price is sliding towards that magic 19 number.   One  calendar-quarter at that level, and it will have to begin bankruptcy proceedings....but not before the UAW has taken everything home at is or is not nailed down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Now, and finally, please remember that the little old lady who kept Tweety Bird in the cage, and who also kept Sylvester the Cat...forever lurking around under that cage...SHE HAD AN ELECTRIC AUTO!!!   It worked fine.   It was like the Stanley Steamer, except that unlike the Stanley Steamer, it could not go over 120 miles per hour on the same beach that the Wright Brothers made the first heavier than air craft actually take off and fly under artificial power.   We tend to think that only Al Gore and Hillary Clinton can come up with real cool ideas.   Like machines that can help people buy cattle futures at one-one thousandth of their actual value.   Or canoes that Al Gore and his wife can order up several million gallons of water from a reservoir to use in order to show everyone how eco-outdoorsey they are....(canoe still did not float, it was only designed for four people....and Al was ....well...you know).
Detroit Electric, c. 1919
    Detroit Electric (1907 - 1939) was an automobile brand produced by the Anderson Electric Car Company in Detroit Michigan. Anderson had previously been known as the Anderson Carriage Company (until 1911), producing carriages and buggies since 1884. Production of the electric automobile, powered by a rechargeable lead acid battery, began in 1907. For an additional $600.00 an Edison nickel-iron battery was available from 1911 to 1916. The cars were advertised as reliably getting 80 miles (130 km) between battery recharging, although in one test a Detroit Electric ran 211.3 miles (340.1 km) on a single charge. Top speed was only about 20 miles per hour (32 km/h), but this was considered adequate for driving within city or town limits at the time.      The Detroit Electric was mainly sold to women drivers and physicians who desired the dependable and immediate start without the physically demanding hand cranking of the engine that was required with early internal combustion engine autos. A statement of the cars refinement was evidenced to the public through its design which included the first use of curved window glass in a production automobile, an expensive and complex feature to produce.
Sylvester, Tweety, and Granny listen to
Obama describe how all their medical
concerns have been solved, and that
it will all be free.
    The company production was at its peak in the 1910s selling around 1000 to 2000 cars a year. Towards the end of the decade the Electric was helped by the high price of gasoline during World War I. In 1920 the name of the Anderson company was changed to "The Detroit Electric Car Company" as the car maker separated from the body business (it became part of Murray Body) and the motor/controller business (Elwell-Parker).*
(*  blue print indicates Wikipedia information)

     It should also be pointed out that there were various choices concerning  brands and types of the electric vehicles.   They were associated with the "1% people".   The vehicles were seen as eccentric, but elegant, and were generally regarded as well made and well appointed.  The problem came with the obvious difference in filling the tank of your Stutz Bearcat and driving for 300 miles, and the alternative.   Electricity was also something that needed to be used judiciously, due to cost, as gasoline became steadily cheaper due to competition and larger scale refining operations made production more efficient and cheaper.
     And then, El Gringo Viejo's grandfather had a nice home in a place called Gwinner, North Dakota where he had tree-steaded in the late 1880s.  The home was electrified in the earliest part of the 1900s by means of a 32 volt, direct current windmill powered battery system.   He installed a similar system for his home in rural Hidalgo County of Texas in 1916.   Neither system, of course, could ever have handled the needs required of even a modest home situation in these days.
     And as we talk about Romney outsourcing jobs to foreign countries, it is pointed out that almost all the blades made for electricity producing wind turbines are made either in Finland or Mexico.   One electric auto company that received a considerable "investment" from Obama bag of free tax money....is also Scandinavian....and it has already served notice that plans for setting up in the United States might not be in the company's future after all.   Another cup of Solyndra, anyone?

Next up will be a pleasant supper episode with folks from the Phillipines, Singapore, and such places....all very, very ardent Americans who are concerned about America losing its soul.

Beat the Drum...Beat the Drum Harder

An assembly of notions and observations follows:

(1)    We learned to-day that the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, USA has determined in its wisdom, and by authorising vote of the the House of Bishops, that no parish within any diocese affililiated with the Episcopal Church, USA can refuse to hire a person for any matter associated with sexual orientation or practice, including cross-dressing, for any position, volumteer or paid, working as a sextant, a teacher or teacher's aide, or Sunday School or catechism instructor, or secretary, vestryman, or any other such position including vicar, rector, deacon, music director, choir member, lay reader, or acolytes.
     That will solve all the problems in the Anglican Communion.   Saints Preserve Us.

(2)    Obama celebrates the employment of 56,000 new, full-time hires during the month of June, 2012.   His real celebration was reserved for the 85,000 Social Security Disability new hires.   Ninety percent of the latter will be Democrat votes.

(3)     There are still folks who seem to be intelligent who say, "We have to make O'bama understand that his policies are hurting the country!"
     Virginia!!!  Read my lips!!!  Obama's intent from the beginning was to do the work for which he was programmed.   Demonise the wealthy, ridicule the police, jam up the Department of Justice, muddle the immigration issue for demagogic purposes, block advances in production and processing of oil and natural gas, disregard orders to desist, issued by federal judges in matters pertaining to the closing of the Gulf of Mexico to deep water drilling, sabotaging the Keystone Pipeline agreement, and hundreds of other actions, small and large.   The entire reason for Obama to have been placed into the Presidency is to fundamentally transform America into an organic law, national socialist state, and to relegate the Constitution to irrelevance.   He will be remembered as the man who waved his hammer and ordered insurance companies to provide "free" contraceptive medicines for women, and who cancelled the preferred stock and bond holdings of private investors in General Motors and Chrysler Motors, again with a wave of his sickle.
     He is following his orders from the internationalist marxists who have groomed him for twenty years into the robotron that he is.   Imagine saying the same lame campaign line for five years.....mendacious, illogical, and demeaning to the intelligence of reasonable productive people.....but wonderful for those seeking parasitic, dependent status in a Brave New World.
(4)      Colombia University really thinks that Obama might have gone to their school in New York City for two years....they have the records.... they are almost totally sure that they do, really!    No one really knows much about his transcripts,  and very, very, very few people remember him being in attendance, on campus.....you know, like....being a student.   One pr0fessor did say that he had Obama in his class, and he gave Obama an "A"....
     Uh...Sorry, Mr. Professor.   Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Dwight Eisenhower, Herbert Hoover, Howard Taft, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush...even James Earl Carter.... turned over their transcripts and medical records to the public view.   William Jefferson Blythe and Barak Hussein Obama did not.    Only one of those men happen to have an illegally obtained, out of sequence Social Security Card and number.   Three guesses.
(5)     Al Gore, this is just for you.   While the press was going nuts about the "terrible storms" and "3,500 high temperature  records being broken" in the northeastern quarter of the contiguous forty-eight States, in the British Isles it's wet and cold....record setting cold is the rule.    Russia's eastern areas are beset with rains and summer chill.   So...go back to your inundated ocean-front, San Francisco lover's nest, Al....Oh!  The Pacific has not risen to swallow your little cottage de romance?   But you said the oceans would be 19 feet higher if we were to continue burning "fossil" fuels, and that this would occur before 2010!!!   Al...Al!  Is that another one of those stupid polar bears diving in your Dempster Dumpster?   You didn't finish all of that second pizza you took over to the massage parlour?

Guns and butter, to-morrow.   Thanks for being here, to-day!

Texans...a peculiar breed, type, kind, and sub-species

    El Zorro sent some information to El Gringo Viejo a few hours ago.   Most of the matter referenced an ancient set of events wholly pertinent only to our own personal orbit.  But then, he included a couple of observations that tugged at, if not the heart-strings, at least at the gall-bladder-strings.   They are gut-feelings that a lot of Texans have.   A dumbo like Governor Perry has them, but he hath not the grey-matter to explain his gut-feelings, and gut-instincts.
     Perry's notion that folks should  feel something for a person who was brought to Texas as a child being treated as an "illegal alien" was badly explained.   It killed him in the Republican Presidential Primaries.    It was badly explained because he had failed to formulate a reasonable answer, a reasonable position, and a reasonable defense of his position.   He needed to put into  thirty-second sets of phrases something about the thousands of Texas high schoolers and collegiates, back in the 1930s through the 1960s,  who would trundle down to Saltillo and San Miguel de Allende/Guanajuato,  and Oaxaca and Puebla/Cholula and Guadalajara/Chapala/Zapopan/Tequila during the summer and pick up transferable credits, room and board with a Mexican family, and 9 to 12 hours of foreign language, history, and/or anthropology and archaeology.    These Texas students paid regular tuition, and several Mexican State University systems had reciprocal agreements with the Republic of Texas that permitted their residents to matriculate in Texas public colleges and universities if the Mexican student had the grades and standard pre-requisite studies.

     The Governor could have turned the entire illegal immigration issue into a strong suit simply by saying that Texans have a much deeper understanding of who is coming in to contribute and who is coming in to be a parasite and who is coming in to forward criminal intents.   He could have pointed out that when we really had border problems, especially during and shortly after the worst parts of the Mexican Revolution of 1910 - 1917, we really did have significant to huge deployments of National Guard and Regular Army mounted cavalry and mounted infantry along the Texas frontier with Mexico.    There were times that there were as many as 150,000 effectives serving in those counties adjacent to the Rio Grande.   These deployments stretched between Fort Leaton and Fort Hancock in the Texas Big Bend country, down through Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Brackettville, Laredo, Zapata, Rio Grande City, McAllen/Mission/Hidalgo, Relampago, Blue Town, Santa Maria, El Olmo, and Brownsville.
      These places were connected by telephone, telegraph, heliograph, Iron Horse, and another odd invention called an aero plane.    From a period right around the war with Spain through and including World War II, this part of the American Republic was defended by heavy, dusty, jingly-jangly patrols of cavalry, 50 cal. water cooled machine guns drawn, along with their ammunition by well-matched teams of mules.   The rifle of issue and of respect by line soldier and officer alike was the Craig and Jorgenson 30 -40, and the soldiers patrolled with their issue .45 Army Colt semi-automatic, of Philippine Huk War fame.

Craig (Krag) and Jorganson 30 - 40 carbine, made in Springfield, Massachussets during the 1890s
      As has been stated before, El Gringo Viejo's father served in this operation and was in the United States Army 1st Cavalry, 12th Regiment Headquarters Squadron, based in Fort Brown, Texas and in service throughout that above-described part of Texas.

     Then, as now, most of the populace...what little there was by to-day's measure....almost always wanted the Cavalry around.    In the areas described, the period from 1890 through about 1935 ranged from wild and wooly to "you need to keep your eyes peeled".   The danger was not always  disorganised units of "revolucionarios" that degenerated into bandits, because during the 1920s, for instance, and into the early part of the Great Depression there were plenty of bootleggers and other vermin.   Al Capone even came to the Lower Rio Grande Valley to arrange for deliveries from bootleggers of various types of liquors.    Anarchists from Italy and Spain and places in South America filtered through the border in significant numbers, along with Fifth Column communist moles, and later German NAZI infiltrators, spies, and saboteurs.   Counterfeiters of both coin and bank and bond notes passed false money of poor to excellent quality, especially through South Texas .

     But....Governor Good Hair did not "come through".   He mumbled because he had Yankee-fied, moderate mumble-coaches who speak straight from the focus groups whose combined IQs sometimes approach double digits.   "Duh, you know it's a thing about, you know,all that stuff and everything, you know.   And besides, you know, the rich just keep on gettin' richer and the poor just keep on gettin' poorer and everything, you know.  You know?"

     A politician formats his own speech and speaking to match the dribble of inarticulate people who actually believe what is coming at them from the television and newspaper Old Media.    A true Conservative statesman tells folks the truth, gives them a vision, and sets them free to set up the Magic Taco Stand that glows in the dark and generates 50,000 dollars a week in sales within the first year of operation.   Heck, it only took 5 people in the family working 80 hours/week each, while going to school full time.  (That, by the way, was the typical Mexican immigrant type during the 1930s through the 1960s.   And then the Vietnamese, Korean, Indian and such since that time.   Little wonder we are sliding backwards while waiting for Obama to "give" us "healthcare" and "security".)

     We, the supposedly hard-nosed, rightwing, bigoted fag-bashing, hate-filled Klanners, are much more complicated than the leftwingers hope we are.    We think in concepts, while they think in tactics.  We point up to the good, into the land of hope, improvement, and fulfillment, and they point down into the grit and dispair of the inner city that they have produced and for which they blame, somehow, us.

BUT NOW IS THE TIME FOR THE POINT TO BE MADE:

     El Zorro contemplated on the article about "Instant Buyer's Remorse, Anyone?".
Remember, he is a grizzled old Veteran, an arch-conservative, arch-constitutionalist, totally skilled blue collar type who can change in less than a second into a buttoned down white-collar executive type without taking an extra breath and with a perfect Windsor knot, to boot. And what he sends us are these....contemplations....a piece of prosaic poetry... that puts the reader behind his eyes....and the eyes of many, many rightwing Texans.   We are much more complicated than the Hollywood people will ever understand.  And the mainstream media people will never understand.....ghastly "Willie Nelsonisms" that Dan Rather tried to employ so as to sound like a real live "native Texan"...gag

    .....Your insight to the “Hispanic race" is very accurate.
  When I happen to run into a Spanish speaking individual,
 “…little dark people with brown eyes and black hair”,
 and respond to a greeting in Spanish
 it changes a frown to a smile.
.....I think people of those origins, legal or not,
 appreciate it when an obvious “gringo” does not talk loudly in English
 to communicate and has taken the time to learn their language
.....especially in North Texas where they are, at times,
seen as no more than stoop labor.
.....GW did at least attempt to speak the language,
never mind he slaughtered it,
but then he slaughtered English as well.
.....It would seem that pandering to any distinctive group,
..... ethnic, religious, sex, etc. specifically is a losing strategy.
.....after all,  “We are everybody”.
.....Again, I dream of secession by Texas from this Union of states and the merger of some sort between Texas and Mexico.  Can you imagine the resources brought together?  We could be the most powerful, productive, and civil country in the world living under a constitution similar to the one of the Framers sans the degradation that has been perpetrated by the Supreme Court (Congress and Presidents not withstanding).

Z

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     El Zorro's last paragraph has been left in its original format.   This is the stuff high-school seniors mull over during early morning stay-over conversations....and then later have in college, in the student union cafeteria, talking to buddies.   And then again during conventions of various Colleges within various Universities, while the professors are busy trying to impress each other with the numbers of published articles, and then in the bars and restaurants, in the barbecues with friends during those special summer afternoons and evenings....and while night fishing in the Laguna Madre.
     Terms such as "merger", in this writer's opinion, would raise howls of protests among some Texans, while others would be intrigued by the thought, at least on an academic level.     Texas could be free-standing as a Republic, and we would be better off for it.  We could commit to something like a Special Relation with Mexico, and an assembly of commonwealth inter-relationships with other States of the United States it would be a formidable arrangement.   Texas and Mexico as an alliance would equal Germany, in terms of economic production.   That would be 4th in the world.
      Consider that Mexico has the world's 10th or 11th largest economy at this writing, and then consider that Texas, alone, has an economy that is the equivalent of Mexico's.   Consider that New York and California are essentially in free-fall,  and all the economic road signs for them point to Greece,  and their populations are degenerating into parasitic societies.
     Negatives are obvious.   Mexico has a long haul, still, to parity with Texas.   Mexico does dumboe things like the United States in electing a dumboe for President.   But the good part of the nation is resolved to fight against their own decay, as we do in Texas.    As the United States moves towards organic law and Balkanization, Mexico stumbles towards common and natural law, and...perish the thought....old-style Americanization.   Most Americans, even the ones who go to Cancun and Playa del Carmen, etc. for vacations...cannot comprehend the progress Mexico has made in the last 10 years especially, and what a hub of commercial, industrial, and agricultural activity it has suddenly developed into.
     At the HEBs in Mexico...in my little city of Cd. Victoria, when I go to pay out at my grocery store, I do not have to wait in line behind some slob buying things with food stamps or a Lone Star Card, things that I could never hope to afford since I am part of the "1%".
    So, yes...we think ...what if.   Texans do think like that.   And even when we say, ''...Aw..we're just a'joshin' you all a bit...." , we really are being serious.   It's better to go our own way, and  deepen our friendships with people whom we have fought, with whom we have been friends, done business, and generally developed a deep and wide relationship, than to cast ourselves further into the breach of collapse of a country whose Supreme Court cannot even determine the obvious un-constitutionality of a law so flawed, that we had to vote for it before we could read it.
Thank you all for your kind attention and time.
