Known by the Company They Keep
Guess What? (It's Fairly Predictable)
The news about the boy who committed suicide because he was concerned about not being able to go to engineering school after leaving high school. Turns out that his family says that there was nothing left in any notes that would indicate such a thing. One brother said that in his good-bye note, one of several left to various family members, the only concern his now departed younger brother evidenced was about being drafted into the ever diminishing ranks of the cartels. He feared and loathed the idea of being forced to be a mule. Several of his classmates have been menaced by gang thugs in the area. The gang thugs are always recruiting because their ranks are diminished by shootings, incarcerations, and flight from the area on a daily basis. They recruit, at times, by telling the potential conscript that if they refuse service to the gang, their family will be shot....their house will be burned down....their FFA project animals will be shot....their sisters will be raped.....etc.
That is the only reference made by anybody at the first level of relationship to the young man now departed. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department has taken possession of all notes and related items and is not commenting, due to the fact that, in Texas, this is a homicide. It is against the law to murder someone with clear intent and malice aforethought. So, since that is the quintessential characteristic of a suicide, such matters are always investigated between closely and extremely closely.

We commend this to the attention of interested OROGs.
We assert that Congressman Ruben Hinojosa is the perfect example of a "feed the children for free". Tax, Tax, Spend, Spend, Elect, Elect is his motto. "I will put their money where my mouth is!" is another motto. "We have been denied too long," is another of his mottoes, although he comes from one of the oldest, colonial families in South Texas, a family that until recent times was very wealthy. He is a mendacious, hypocritical slug. The idea of a person born of blue blood, and to the upper-class reducing himself to the level of carnival-huckster demagogue in one short generation is stunning. He began his political career as a puppet for big business, the United Farm Workers, and such confusing forms of political convenience and has steadily become worse.
The idea of walking on the grave of this fine young man....is disgusting. This tragedy should never have been taken into the public domain. With the most minimal intervention of class, dignity, social training, and deference it should have been obvious to anyone that this was a very private family matter.

Finally, El Gringo Viejo was having a bit of lunch a couple of days ago, talking with a friend...an old competitor from our touring business days....and we were comparing notes and topics of interest. We have very similar backgrounds...Texas...university studies....Mexico, very conservative political and cultural notions....Anglicanism, etc. As we review this issue of the terrible suicide of this fine boy my friend brought up something that is known, but stored back into the recesses of the brain that pertain to school days back in the 1950s and 1960s.
Texas....which walks on the edge of having an independent foreign policy to that of the occupying authourity.... enacted various reciprocal agreements years ago, back in the 1930s and 1940s, that permitted Mexican States to send citizens of their States to Texas public school and universities and pay in-State tuition. In return, Texans were permitted to attend their schools under the same considerations. This meant, for instance, that in the summertime, years back there would be a hoard of Texans staying in private homes in Saltillo, Coahuila and studying Spanish at the University of Coahuila during the summer-school period. The credits were transferrable on a university transcript and the experience for many was life-changing. It was better than Spring Break, and much less degenerate and/or expensive. The campus of the University of Coahuila in Saltillo looks like what Greece was trying to look like.
The States were, if the Gringo Viejo remembers correctly, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulpas, Jalisco, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi', Yucatan, and perhaps Oaxaca. There might be others. The program may still be extant.
Of interest, of course, is that various of these public universities had famously fine programs in archeology, anthropology, Spanish language, Indian languages, and other liberal arts themes such as history and geography. Also of extreme importance, of course, were the medical schools, especially Nuevo Leon (Monterrey) and Jalisco (Guadalajara) and Yucatan (Merida) that were always between triple-A minor league and major league. With an MD degree from those schools (and some others in Mexico) and budding doctor, surgeon, dentist, or orthodontic surgeon would be ready for his qualifications on the International Doctors' Examination.....especially after one or two years of federal social field service in Mexico....especially in those years. Texans paid no tuition, just like the Mexicans, but of course they paid the "laboratory fees" and "building use fees" etc. like the Mexicans. It was very inexpensive, in relative terms....and one normally stayed with a family or a "respectable private rooming arrangement" (usually two or three rooms w/ bath in some old mansion with a couple of ancient servants and a widow trying to preside over what had gone with the wind).
El Gringo Viejo's wife worked for one of those doctors here in Texas....he graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. He would recount how "...the Mexicans were dumb enough to let me into medical school with my BA grades, and they were smart enough to make me the best doctor I could be. I can't let them down by doing a crummy job, ever". Then he would trundle off down the corridor to the next patient. He would laugh in his famously inimitable way after telling details of his adventures in Mexico in the early 1950s. He was a highly recognized and esteemed surgeon in matters of the throat and larynx. He also did other general surgeries and caught babies. He would always say that the time he spent in Mexico made him a much better person and the two years (he volunteered for one extra year) he spent in federal field service were the most rewarding time he had spent in his life to that point. He worked in some small towns around Monterrey and in some really outback places. His Spanish was excellent.
El Gringo Viejo also remembers Perla, the girl from Reynosa across from McAllen, who would arrive at Mirabeau Bonapart Lamar Junior High School in near-north central McAllen every morning. She had a big black auto, and a chauffeur who would get down and go around to open the door for her.....At the end of the day, he would return and pick her up. She paid the same out-of-district tuition as if she was from a neighbouring town in Texas.....around 42 dollars per semester. She caused quite a stir because she dressed in near semi-formal...wore a hat and gloves normally....had "real lady's make-up"....and usually wore heels. At first she was something of an oddity...like a movie star or something...but gradually she was taken in by a cliq of girls and joined a couple of clubs and even served on the Student Council in the 9th grade. She came to study and to learn a good variety of common American English spoken by people of her own class, according to her father. Most of the guys remember her just as a knock-out with black eyes, milk coloured skin, a Jackie bouffant, and a wardrobe like Audrey Hepburn's. She was very down to earth, civilised, attractive, and...in a way...friendly.
So, yes that's the way it was. Rick Perry could have mentioned that, but he is probably unaware of it. He could have won the Republican nomination if he had only explained how cumbersome Texas government is....how little power the Governor has....how constrained the Congress of the Republic of Texas is due to our experiences with the Reconstruction and the unbridled tyranny that was brought by the Union Occupation.
So....now people might understand how and why Texans are a little conflicted in all directions about some of the looser ends of the immigration issue. The Old Gringo is adamant, however about sealing the border, first and foremost. It is one of the few areas where the central government should not just do something...it should do an Israeli quest for perfect, hermitic penetration by unauthourized visitors. Liberal for those who comply with the rules..hard on those who do not.
Feeling a bit restored, and grateful for your time and attention.

Posting on Dream Act...
The considerably less than honourable Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, representing the XVth District of Texas in the national Congress in Washington, District of Columbia went to the floor of the House yesterday to moan about how Republicans hate Mexican-Americans and children and families. His time ran out before he got the part about how Republicans have secret places where they waterboard babies and left-handed lesbian Eskimales.
In a very serious vein, he pointed out how failure to act on the "Dream Act" which would allow children of illegal aliens to attend college or enlist in the military in spite of the fact that those foreign born children are not citizens....caused the suicide of a boy here in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
To be perfectly clear, foreign-born children of illegal aliens are not, and do not become, citizens of Texas or the United States of America upon their 18th birthday. Children, both foreign-born and native-born, of legal aliens can choose the citizenship of their native country or, if they keep their mouths shut, of the country of their parents' origin.
The mainstream press story is that George Bush forced this boy to commit suicide because the "Dream Act" was not passed and he was afraid that he could not attend college to study engineering. Of course, both King George H.W. and King George W. favoured legislation like the "Dream Act" during their public careers. That is beside the point.
The next thing is that this boy who was afraid that he would not be able to attend college and study engineering HAD ALREADY BEEN ACCEPTED FOR ATTENDANCE IN THE FALL ENROLLMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, PAN AMERICAN IN EDINBURG, TEXAS!!! He would have been one of several hundred who attend on a waiver, a waiver which is always granted to a person who does not have anti-social issues (criminal record), and the necessary test scores and grades from an accreditted high school. Further, at worst, he could have attended as a foreign student while arranging....with some but not much....an American student visa in Monterrey at the American Consul, or in Matamoros at the American Consul.
That he could not attend college because of his immigration status is either a lie or a macabre windmill that was set up in his mind by "open borders" extremists and "sanctuary city" radicals who are intent on destroying America by flooding our Republic with people who are unqualified for residency and/or citizenship. Before this blog is taken out of context, we are not saying that people of Mexican or Australian or Japanese ancestry are not competent to assume American citizenship. We are saying that the marxists and anti-American elements both domestic and foreign who hate liberty and America are the bigots. They see Mexicans as stupid, dull, parasitic, degenerate, licentious, filthy slugs. They think that by flooding the United States of America with stupid, dull, parasitic, degenerate, licentious, filthy slugs who produce bastards by the boatload who have to be fed and later housed in huge prison complexes located at 20 mile intervals.....that they can destroy the Greatest Nation in the history of Planet Earth. They are the ones using people to essentially make war on the United States by injecting rot and septic contaminants into the veins of the Statue of Liberty.
True conservatives see this issue more clearly. Years ago, about 85% of Mexican and other Latin-American immigrants who waited in line and filled out the stupid forms and went through the hoops and passed the tests became great citizens. Military heroes, skilled blue-collar people with their own mechanic shops, teachers, doctors, small business people, executives, astronauts, nurses, policemen, etc. Some remain as legal aliens but married an American and produced families worthy of their keep and the respect of those around them.
About 85% of the people normally typified as "Anglo" did about the same. We had our strange members, like my Uncle Don who liked to make license plates for the Governor of California during the 1940s and 1950s.
Therefore, let the Gringo Viejo point out. This boy, the one who committed suicide, did so because of some other personal conflict or because of a horrid lack of understanding about the nature of how "doughnut hole" children attend college in Texas. This boy's mother, for instance is a legal alien...papers and everything....he came early when she and her husband we visiting in Mexico. The stork put him there. An immigration lawyer could have obtained this boy a set of waivers that even Santa Claus would have accepted and any judge would have signed.
So, Ruben Hinojosa....you are another mendacious demogog, walking on the grave of an unfortunate, for your own purposes, caught in the act of being of mendacious slug. You sealed your divorce papers. You told a tightly controlled "town-hall" meeting...with 20 people permitted inside...that " I am going to give the minority people the free medical care that has been denied to them for so long by the society"....(??????). That is how you explained your support for the O'bama Socialized Medicine Initiative.
Central Campus and Rectory of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon |
This is the setting of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, which straddles the limits between the adjacent cities of San Nicolas de los Garza and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon |
This boy....a very handsome boy....a very intelligent boy....had a very bright path lain before him by the angels. His failure to inquire, his own internal demons, something clipped him away from us. For instance, because he was on a local Registro Civil in Mexico, in the Monterrey, Nuevo Leon area, he could easily have barged in on family in that area and attended the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon which happens to have an excellent college of engineering. It also excels with a fine medical and dental school, law school, liberal arts, business and computer technology school....etc. There are 200,000 students there, with about 2,500 being Gringos who even look like run-of-the-mill gringos. The environment is such that adaptation time would be minimal, his Spanish would have improved and there would have been no lack of people who speak English fluently within arm's reach at all times.
It is in no wise unusual to find Americans in the School of Medicine graduating ranks. It is a really good medical school, not a mill, and produces excellent country GPs and excellent general surgeons and dental surgeons. The gringos who attend are frequently very intelligent under-achievers who "grow up" suddenly around the time they finish college and have a bit of trouble getting into a "school of choice" in the United States. Once in Monterrey they are thrown in the pool to learn how to swim. The Old Gringo has never met a doctor who went to the UANL program who did not say that the experience was the best thing that ever happened to him....including the federal field service (one or two years, depending upon specialty).
Part of the last graduating class from the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas. There were 3,700 graduated from 13 different Colleges within the University |
On top of that, there are excellent pre-engineering prep-schools in Reynosa, and a full pre-engineering program at the Universidad Autonima de Tamaulipas in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.

SO, Please spare me! There are, there were, there will be alternatives and rabbit paths for everyone with the drive, vision, and aim to at least shoot at the target. I am crushed that this fine child could not see his silver and gold horizon. Devastated.
Leave me alone for a bit. And thanks for putting up with an Old Curmudgeon who really does hope the best for each child....each person.

Somebody Ought to Do Something
If Bob Bethel thinks that there are no women driving Escalades and using food stamps, he needs to visit McAllen, Texas. If O'bama thinks that the solution to poverty is unemployment compensation and food stamps and Aid to Families with Dependent Children, he can see this....and blame it on Bush.
THE PROBLEMS OF OUR SOCIETY, IN EACH AND EVERY CASE, HAS AN ASSEMBLY OF CENTRAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS AT THEIR CORE. IN EACH CASE, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CENTRAL GOVERNMENT SOLUTION EITHER CREATED A PROBLEM THAT DID NOT EXIST BEFORE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROBLEM, OR IT AGGRAVATED THE PROBLEM TO THE DELIGHT OF THE PROGRESSIVES WHOSE AIM IT IS TO DESTROY AMERICA.
PLEASE REMEMBER, AMERICAN ILLEGITIMACY RATE AMONG NEGROES IN 1950 - 7%. IN 2010 - 77%. What we need, you see, is for the government to set up a program to feed these people and give them housing. It hasn't ever been tried before.....much. If only the rich would pay their fair share....?
WARNING: Cliquing onto the following linkage is not for the weak of heart. The Gringo Viejo's hatred is not spent on this poor, stupid woman but on the Progressives who foisted this problem upon America and upon this poor, demented individual.
We retire for the day, too depressed to be reasonable. Thanks for your time and interest.

It's always the same
Whether it's the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City after the presidential election protests five years ago or the OWS mess in downtown New York City a week ago, or any leftist or Democrat get-together....it's always the same.
We bring to mind the young woman who sneered at the television camera this morning, and said,"They have no right to make us leave! We are the people. This is a public park. It belongs to us." The perfect, psychotic, conceited, narcissistic, lazy, mean, self-absorbed notion that a public park belongs to .....enter any word other than to the general public to come and go in general legal activity without interfering with another to do the same.
The Gringo Viejo is not the smartest person ever born. He is certainly not the best person. But even he can understand that public places belong to everyone in a common law sense. They belong to no one group or individual. That is the difference between communitarianism and communism.
And it must be underscored....At all the Tea Party functions the grounds and fixtures were left clean...totally picked up....all the permits and licenses in order....self-policed and conducted with restraint and dignity. Even when the plants and provocateurs came to try to misrepresent or provoke....they failed....because the dumboe Tea Party people knew they were coming and received them with expert passive resistance.
Day and night. Good and bad. There is natural law. There is a correct way and a wrong way.
Thanks for your time and attention.

That Common Touch
If Hillary and Michelle do it, they are "sophisticated" or "with it" or "in" . If Laura Bush were to have done it, she would have been styled "insensitive" or "self-indulgent" or "Beverly Hillbillies come to Washington".

Just one of the differences between socialists who are in the Democrat Party and liberals who are aligned with the Republican Party.
(Did you all ever notice how black people, white people, any kind of people look so ....normal..when they are Republicans and/or Conservatives, and how Democrats and leftists look like characters from saloon scenes in Star Wars movies?)

Additional Warning!
All Negroes intending to stick their necks out and campaign for anything as a Republican, please be aware that Gloria Alred has a stable of kooks and malcontents who will trundle forth to tell the world about having been raped, assaulted, sexually "harassed", or left hanging after an affair with the Negro Republican or Conservative postulant. Those same women, like the Guatemalan illegal alien domestic who lied on her application for employment to the domestic agency that provided workers for the immediate past Republican candidate for Governor of California, then become as Cheshire Cats, out of sight....and out of mind.

The Old Gringo, in spite of having had knowledge of the strange proclivity for some women to make up stories from whole clothe about various offences against their sensibility, always sided with the women when these stories would surface. The last time, however, was with the perfectly, carefully well-spoken Anita Hill who spun a story that was perfectly believable and astounding....until it became apparent that it was a fantasy.
When her story unravelled, the Old Gringo shook his head in wonder at the continued assertion of the validity of the case....by Molly Yard....that the truth of the issue was not as important as the seriousness of the charges. It is a variant of the "....we'll have to vote for the bill in order to find out what is in it"....logic that marxists, relativists, and rationalists simply adore to invoke.
And Justin Beeber having to defend a paternity issue? And the Duke lacrosse players? That woman wound up killing her boyfriend later. Herman Cain's latest accuser has been evicted from housing on several....many occasions. She was issued a restraining order for stalking, extreme repetitive telephoning, threatening, and generally tormenting her business partner and was given a chance to avoid felony charges by desisting. For a brief while she did, and then returned to her old ways, including publishing and declaring false and injurious information about that business partner. That individual sued her in court for defamation, and won a judgement against her. She never paid the judgement, but she did desist in further harassment and tormenting of the business partner, fearing jail for contempt of court.
Her last eviction was in October of this year.
Any errors Herman Cain may have made should be addressed. If they are egregious, he should quietly retire from the field. The Old Gringo fears that even if the charges are spurious, he is now damaged to an extent so as to be unrestorable. ALL CONSERVATIVES AND ALL REPUBLICANS of the BLACK RACE MUST CONSIDER BEFORE FILING THAT THE MARXISTS AND ELITISTS WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA FOR THE MASSES WILL THROW ANY AND EVERY KIND OF FILTH THEY CAN AGAINST YOU. A misdemeanour committed by a conservative will be dealt with as a life and death felony. A felony committed by a liberal or a Democrat will be treated as a badge of honour and a sign of "growth". Gary Studds, Barney Frank, William Jefferson Blythe, Hillary Rodham, Franklin Raines, Jesse jackson, and there is not enough ink to fill in the rest, all the way Lyndon Baines Johnson, Wilbur Mills, etc.
It is apparent that if a Negro gets "too far up" as a Conservative or Republican, he will face a flood of sexually related charges brought by people who have a peripheral, glancing passage with the individual of concern. There needn't be any true offense, only a time and space possibility. With the Clintons, an avalanche of evidence concerning fraud and other felonies results in that pitiable finality of listening to Web Hubble moaning to his wife during his conversation with her from his prison telephone room, " Then you mean I'm just going to have to roll over one more time in order to keep them out of trouble." The wife was pleading with him to back up Hillary's "corkscrew story 2,394.0" ....Web's wife had a White House job at the time....When she called her husband at the prison, she had forgotten that prisoners have no right of privacy in their telephone calls. She called due to the fact that she feared for her life. Her shaking voice and pleading was that of a woman frightened for her life. The stupid Republican Congressman from Indiana who was heading an investigation into some of the Clinton's shenanigans, released that tape instead of holding it back for leverage and positive impact at a more opportune time for the good of the Republic.
The mainstream press totally....completely.....entirely....absolutely disregarded the telephone call except for one statement about how telephone calls should be private.
