Musings on Jorge Castañeda's new book "Mañana, Forever", the Nation's review of the book, and the man himself

We have several and various left, liberal, socialist, progressive, and communist OROGs who are masochists or simply "searchers''.    The Old Gringo has perhaps as four or five friends in the world. and among them is one of these.   From this noble personality has come a book review pertaining to Jorge Castañeda's new book, entitled "Mañana, Forever".    The book review is, as one might imagine, found in the Nation magazine, and is conducted by Natasha Wimmer.
     Natasha is best remembered as Boris's love interest and partner in the trials and tribulations of Rocky and Bullwinkle.....no! no!...wrong genre...Natasha Wimmer is actually, like Castaneda, one of those enigmatic things on the left that are referred to in nature as a mutant; a member of the specie that does not comform entirely to the normal demands of inherited chromosomes.   Jorge and Natasha both....at times....make some sense and draw correct conclusions from evidence presented.
Miss Wimmer at tea
     Jorge and Natasha both...at times....can see the mote in the eye of a leftist.   Natasha's creds can be found here:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natasha_Wimmer

Please read this pro-communist summary (linked in this paragraph)  which includes vitriol and hatred that the various socialist movements have always reserved for Jews, communists who attack communist sacred cows, and communists who begin the journey out of the desert of hate, dispair, and dysfunctional  "democratic peoples republics'" basket-case dictatorship countries http://www.aztlan.net/gutmanousted.htm  .     The hatred in this case is from a person who has little intelligence and much marxist cant against a person who has great intelligence and who is on an epiphany to right thinking.

Jorge Castaneda Gutman

Jorge is a communist-back-when type. Like a lot of those folks, he gradually soured on things like the Cuban experiment with applying psychotic derangement to any political/economic model. While still an ardent leftist, and fresh off having supported Lazaro Cardenas's son Cuauhtemoc for President of Mexico in the 1994 elections, he came around to be willing to serve the Conservative Party's (PAN) newly elected President, Vicente Fox Quezada as Secretary for Foreign Relations. Jorge is a brilliant explainer and story-teller in the positive sense. While the Old Gringo prefers Octavio Paz as a writer, perhaps because as he aged and gained wisdom, Octavio steadily moved to the Right during his journey through life, it should be pointed out that most lefties of any importance chafe at Jorge's willingness to be reasonable. Jorge, for example, is given some, if not all, the credit for marginalizing the useless old psuedo-revolutionary Fidel Whatshisname and his brother Raul.  Jorge also made the mistake of not canonizing Ernesto (Che) Guevara de la Serna in his biographical of the bloodthirsty psychopath.

     The book by Castaneda seems, in my quick perusal, to be something like a literary demolition derby.    So, since the Old Gringo's thought processes are pretty much the same, he felt right at home.   Castaneda points out that Mexico has things that "common sense", "common understanding", and that "everybody knows" all have completely wrong.
For instance, in spite of the collective wisdom concerning such matters Mexico does not have:
An exploding population
An absence of a middle class
A bad economic future
An absence of law or legal process
A massive outmigration of people

        In fact and as a matter of provable fact, Mexico has a population that is rapidly slowing  (?) in growth, and will probably be below 1% before 2020.   Over two-thirds of Mexico's population is in some format or the other of a lower-middle class and an upper-middle class composition.   The future of Mexico's economy is between moderately to extremely bright for a number of reasons, too numerous to mention here.   There is a recognition that Mexico suffers from too many laws....meaningless laws, redundant laws, un-enforcable law, un-interpretable laws.   The process of application of law is still cumbersome, but improving...gradually.  And then, the migration of people going one way or the other, the "going back to Mexico" group began to outnumber the "leaving Mexico" group about two years ago.   Mexico has been suffering from a severe labour shortage for about three years.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next thing is what "commonly accepted fact" holds to be positively true are:
All Mexicans are alike and the same. They constitute a certain and identifiable race. They must be referred to are referred to as "hispanics" in the American media because the word "Mexican" is a dirty, insulting word to "hispanics".
All Mexicans vote Left.   They do not have the ability to defend themselves.   They must have government help in order to survive.   They are pinko drones.
       In fact, in Mexico the vast majority of voting people vote rather much like the United States.  They tend to the conservative and they distrust government and politicians.   The last two PRI (centrist party) candidates for President in Mexico, in 1988 and 1994 who were elected were free-market types and dedicated to free-trade and private sector dominance of the economy.  Since that time the people have elected two conservative party (PAN) free market type Presidents.   That is a 24 year run, and will be repeated for another 6 years.    All the left-wing, socialist and redder parties will not be able to gather up 8 or 9 percent of the vote during the next elections in July, 2012.
     And on the other point, all Mexicans and  Mexican-Americans are very, very difficult to racially and ethnically type-cast.    Over one-fourth of the population is seven-eighths or more Caucasian.    The mestizo (part-white and part-Indian) turns out to be a bit smaller than thought, according to DNA analysts.   Many "darker" Mexicans turn out to be "whiter" (more Caucasian), due to the fact that some of their darker traits come from Moroccan and other northwestern African strains such as Berbers and Carthaginians whose bloodlines in deepest antiquity is most probably Phoenician.     Still, it is true that most Mexicans probably have  indigenous blood derived from people who were in Mexico before the first Iberian presence.   That number would be as high as 75 percent, or oddly enough, a little lower than the number of white people who can trace their ancestry into colonial epoch times in Anglo-America.    Some researchers have estimated that 90 percent of all "white" Southerners have at least 1/32 to 1/4 indigenous blood.
      This leaves the oddity in statistical terms that the majority of all Mexicans are white, and the majority of all Mexicans are indigenous.   It all depends how a person slices the pie.  But to make it simple, for a saloon census, figure that 20% of Mexico is pure white, 70% of Mexico is some lesser or greater mix of indigenous and Caucasian, 19% is Indian, and 1% is Oriental or Negro.  The Old Gringo knows that his percentages on these counts wobble....but they are honest estimates, backed up by considerable science.
      As well, even geographically the rule requires that not all Mexicans are the same.   The further south into Mexico a person goes, the more Indian and Mestizo, with the whites being concentrated into larger cities.   The further North, the people are more white and Mestizo.   There are large swaths of Mexico in the South, in the Yucatan, and in certain demographic "islands" in the North that are composed of majorities of Indigenous peoples.
      Castaneda knows that the term "hispanic" is in its own way insulting, because it takes away the true identity of an individual, and lumps him in to a group with which he may very well have no true similarity.    Castaneda seems to postulate, as Wimmer points out, that Mexico has benefited from losing some of its Mexican mystique due to emigration and re-entry to Mexico, because the American notions of self-reliance and independence unto one's own sovereignty are superior forms of cultural foundation.   Essentially he says that Mexico would be better off as a Calvinist State....I presume.   For some reason, the Old Gringo would rather put up with some of the quirkiness and inefficiencies of the Mexican approach to life if it would mean a preservation of their civility and childish fascination with the wonders of the Creation of Yahweh.   To me it seems that too often, Mexicans and Argentines adapt to and adopt those parts of the American popular culture that are most degenerate.   But who is the Old Gringo to be making those judgements?
FINALLY:
      The Old Gringo has done something more than a bit of spot reading of Jorge's book.   It is a jumble.   It is maddeningly similar to pogo-sticking down a mountain in the dark in terms of its continuity and conclusion formulation.   Jorge Castaneda Gutman's writings bring to mind the folle artiste,  suddenly painting with the impulse of madness and urgency, slashing and splashing paints of strange colours on a soiled canvas while using spent brushes, and then collapsing in an exhausted heap.    The work turns out to be a great masterpiece and is admired as a stunning artistic conquest, even by his detractors.   This book is not a stunning artistic oracademic masterpiece, or perhaps it is.   What I have read of it so far, and what headaches it has caused, has not changed my place on the political spectrum and my headaches seem to abate.   It is akin to a dumptruck emptying a full load of gravel on an ant.
     It is urged to the OROG's attention as a worthwhile, perhaps even necessary, read.    In all the Old Gringo's rantings and ravings perhaps all OROGs can see that all are at home here.  My convictions are made of iron, but no man is my enemy if he wills me or mine no ill.   The Old Gringo can listen, and still even learn a little, without changing his moorings or anchorage.
To all OROGs in Lexington, Texas and all OROGs everywhere.....and to all....a good night.
(Special Message to all OROGs, old and new: Thanks for your indulgence. The Old Gringo and his wife are Episcopalians but tomorrow we shall be in Roman Catholic precincts, with out any particular complaints.   Tomorrow the Old Gringo  will be called upon to give a few openning words before the beginning of the funeral Rosary for the wife's father. On Thursday, the Old Gringo will read his brief and especially prepared Eulogy to a very special father-in-law who is now among the Angels and in the Company of All Souls and All Saints.    The services will be celebrated in a very elegant and fine old Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary here in the locale.   It will be a pleasantly sad time.
Thank each of you who have prayed and wished well for us during these moments.)
Let's All Pile on Herman Cain....He ain't no real ZuluKwanzaaintergalacticIgottadreamkilamonjarosymbionezeReal African American
"But, Mr. Old Gringo, you always use the word Negro when everyone knows you're supposed to call 'them'  African-Americans."
To which the old fool, Mr. Old Gringo, responded, "I always go out of my way to say 'Negro' because Ernesto Guevara always referred to 'them' as "N-words" in Spanish.   So, in order to spite him and his extension of the Cuban Revolucion into the the remainder of of the Americas, the Old Gringo uses the correct anthropological word, which is 'Negro'."
"Yes, but....out of respect to our African-American President, you should defer to his wishes, don't you think?"
"No.   By his own false assertion, he is not African, in spite of what his blood relatives say.   He adamantly asserts that he was not born in Africa.   Also, he is not American because he cleaves to a policy and ideology known as "marxism" which is irrevocably dedicated to the annihilation of the United States of America and to the concept of individual liberty and responsibility and self-reliance.   He is a 'spread the wealth' person, not a 'produce the wealth' person".
"But, Mr. Old Gringo, you have to admit that it was time to elect one of 'them' as President.  You know that it's just not fair for 'them' not to have a first place trophy like the rest of all those old white men."
"I do not believe in the apportionment of representation.   I do not believe in having Negro districts for State and central government congresses.   I do not believe in have Mexican districts, or German districts,  or Bangladeshean districts.   Under the precepts of English Common Law and the Constitution of the United States of America, all men are equal before the law.   It would not bother me to have every elected official in the nation to be Eskimoians, from dog-catcher to and including the Presidency were they literate, sincere, and qualified.   I have voted for Latins over Anglos, Negroes over whites, and almost any combination one can imagine of racial and ethnic selections.   Lamentably, the occasion has not presented itself that I could vote for or against an Australian-American to this point."
"But you have to believe in 'Hope' and 'Change'."
     "The Old Gringo does believe in Hope.   She was the scrawny girl who was a cheerleader for the McAllen Bulldogs back in the early 1960s.   She was about 5'4" and probably weighed about 86 pounds.   She was always nice to the underclassmen.   I believed in her.
     "Change is a bit more complicated.   I admire my son-in-law, because he could handle the change, but I could not.   He is a better man than I.   So, for better or worse, I never changed a diaper during my entire service as a father.
     "It gives the Old Gringo some solace to see that many have played back the magnificent telepromptings and studied the actual words, ".....and we will bring them to their knees, all the whitetrash, all the conservative Negroes and Mexicans, all the rich, all those who have anything you do not have....if you will HOLD them, I will put them in CHAINS."
      And now, a special note to Senator Ried.    Have you ever stopped to think what kind of a basal piece of bigotted bilge you are, when you say that you cannot imagine how "a Hispanic" could ever vote Republican.    Or, Senator...could you imagine, perhaps, what would have happened if George Bush or Sarah Palin or even Rudy Giuliani....you know...the guy who eats lots of spaghetti with his elbows on the table and talks with a funny Italian accent....if any of those people had said something like..,."O'bama is electable because he doesn't speak with a Negro dialect."   Such a statement proves that you know nothing about linguistics and even less about Barak O'bama and even less about not being a dumbass.
      Finally, Herman Cain is an American who can trace his Americanism and his racial identification back together....he is truly a Negro with the complete American Understanding.   He knows about real slavery, real governemnt intrusion, where a person could or could not eat, swim, or drink water,  Jackie Robinson, Mahalia Jackson, the Platters, Willie Mays, Jesse Owens, the Buffalo Soldiers, Jim Crow, Jim Limber, John Brown, Negro Confederate Veterans, John Henry, Booker Tecumseh Washington, George Washington Carver, Stephen Foster and the Camp Town Races and on, and on, and on.   He knows those things and a million others and understands them as an American, as a black man, as a conservative, as a man who knows what he knows and knows what he does not know.    In short, he is not a fraudulent personality, and in that way he is entirely, thankfully, completely different from the present occupant of the White House in Washington D.C.
A vote for any of the declared candidates for the Republican nomination for the office of President of the United States of America....even Congressman Paul....and appreciation for your indulgence as an esteemed OROG.   More Later!
Pelosi on Occupy Wall Street Protesters: "God bless them"
5:03 PM, Oct 6, 2011 • By JOHN MCCORMACK
During a press conference Thursday afternoon, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi praised those participating in the "Occupy Wall Street" protests. "God bless them," Pelosi said, "for their spontaneity. It's independent ... it's young, it's spontaneous, and it's focused. And it's going to be effective."
pelosi, beeler
Can you imagine waking up to this?
Nate Beeler / Clarity Media
"The message of the protesters is a message for the establishment everyplace," said the House Democrats' leader. "No longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street."
Pelosi did not comment on--and was not asked about--the law-breaking that occurred during the protest over the weekend. About 700 protesters were arrested by New York City police after the protesters "swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours," according to CBS News.
When the Tea Party movement emerged in 2009, then-Speaker of the House Pelosi called them "astroturf" and "un-American" people who were "carrying swastikas."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please forgive this lifting of the Weekly Standard's very salient article.   Theirs is the credit, but it is up to the Old Gringo to spread it around, if only the small amount that this Blog can.
     The Tea Party nuts were "AstroTurf" and had "hidden backers and guiding special interests"....but these commie pawns are spontaneous.   Even a dumbo like Glen Beck knew about and predicted all of this four months ago.   PUH - LEEEZE, Nancy, go to the Betty Ford Clinic....have a face transplant....find a good saloon,.....do something....go somewhere....just shut the door when you leave.
      The minority leader continues to continue.   She can correct the Pope of the Holy, Roman, Apostolic, and  Catholic Church about Roman Catholicism.   She is a wondrous girl.   Living proof that the dysfunctional psychotic need not be helped.
Thanks for checking in.

The Left Never Respects....

What is mine is mine, but what is yours is negotiable.
The reason those people are poor is because of institutional weaknesses in the present form of distribution of wealth.
The reason those people are poor is because  of institutional patterns of racial and class discrimination.
The reason for my failure in life is because somebody did something to me.
There is no need for any person to benefit from the death of a relative.   The assets of the dead should be delivered to the Crown and distributed to the benefit of all, depending upon the will of the Crown.
Everyone has the right to a good paying job, a home, medical service, and a comfortable life.    It is the duty of those who have resources to provide such to the rest of the population.
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
     One of my favourite images of the attitude of the left is to see the aftermath of their gatherings.    Leftism is the blossom of a weed that is composed of arrogance, narcissism, conceit, and elitist self-importance.     "If I say there is homo generative global warming, then the debate is closed"
      To begin with that long topic, there is no debate.   The evidence is in, it is overwhelming, and it is absolutely irrefutable.   The terms "global warming'' , "climate change", "nuclear winter" and the like are political and not scientific.    They are convenient terms for Captain Planet and half-wits to use for the purpose of scaring and depressing children into supporting idiotic schemes that could never have any possible effect upon any macro-climate issue.
       Remember....always take pictures of the Arctic and the Antarctic during their Summer episodes.    AlGore says,"....The people are so stupid they will always think the North Pole is cold and that the South Pole is cold.  And when we show them pictures of baby polar bears having to swim to their deaths because the ice floes are melting because George Bush would not sign the Kyoto Accords, we will be able to shut down American industry and everything will be better.  Damn! I am smart."
And then we leave the "Save the Earth, Kill George Bush Rally'' and it looks like this:
http://www.breitbart.tv/hate-rally-protesters-shame-america-with-trash-left-behind/
Notice at the end of the film, an attractive and well-spoken Mexican young woman who expresses some sympathy for the peoples' right to express their greivances but who is also appalled at the litter.    In Mexico the rule is the same...PAN rightwing rally - no litter, PRI "centrist-opportunistic-say-anything-that-means-nothing Party, some-to-much litter.....PRD extreme leftist party rally....tons and tons of gargage, pampers, and graffiti per person.
      This and every public event of the leftists always results in this kind of disrespect for others, for the Earth, for public order, and self-discipline.    It's rather much like a lecture from Michelle O'bama about how to travel responsibly.    Or any of a number of tree-hugging hollywood hypocrits who tell us what we must do so that they can use a B-52 to go down to the corner store.
And then we have the "respectful, peaceful" demonstration by the leftist and pr0-communist forces of Lopez Obrador during the last Presidential Elections in Mexico.   They took over the main political plaza...the venerable Zocalo....in downtownmost Mexico City  AND the totality of the Paseo de la Reforma for FIVE MILES and occupied said areas for almost 2 months.   In this article....totally pro-communist....it points out that the "people" are demonstrating and demanding a recount of the vote.    It does no point out that the Federal Electoral Commission was already underway with the Constitutionally required recount which was done under the view of several score live television cameras from various entities from throughout the world. It was widely regarded by all sane parties....even Cuauhtemoc Cardenas, an influential and leading leftist politician....as the most transparent, accurate, and honest Presidential election in Mexican history.
Imagine this boulevard, the most travelled thoroughfare in
the entirety of Latin America, a true beauty mark in the noble
if problematic City of Mexico, closed and occupied by several
hundred thousand littering slugs, essentially living and using
the famed street as a restroom and garbage dump for the
 masses, for three months following the elections of 2006.
     Much of the observation and grounding complained in the blog cited below represents the actual facts of the days surrounding the Mexican elections of 2006.    It was the tarpits of demagoguery.
The Leftist's Credo:
Promise everything, aim hatred at anybody who has anything, respect nothing, bring the people to a frothing frenzy, and then go back to your home in the (choose one or several) the Hamptons, Lomas de Chapultepec, Nob Hill, West Palm Beach, Puerto Vallarta....and let someone else pick up the garbage.
Mexico’s PAN-PRD Alliance
January 28, 2010
by Arjan Shahani
Mexican politics are frustratingly fascinating.
This seems like a paradox, but then again, so does our history as a modern state. With presidential elections 2.5 years away, unlikely candidates and alliances are already beginning to form. This leaving me wondering if this country has any recollection of the political roads we’ve traveled and the costs they’ve instilled on us.
Let’s retrace our steps for a minute. The Mexican Revolution that started 100 years ago was supposed to set the basis for a system, which would alleviate the poverty gap, provide better worker conditions and at the very least, treat citizens with respect and provide the political rights that people lacked.
But this complex era in Mexican history resulted in what Luis Aboites Aguilar called (in a very politically-correct manner) “a political arrangement which made stability possible in the long term.” Along came the time of the PRIismo, an authoritarian regime with a masked one-party system run by the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI). As they had with Diaz
Tired of instability and revolt, society happily welcomed a structure that turned huelguistas (protestors) into sindicalistas (organized union advocates). Far from a democracy, this electoral system continuously rigged elections and left the poor-rich divide unattended, replacing it with a constant rhetoric of “institutionalized revolution.” The message during the first decades of PRIismo was “we’re working on it.
After their 70-year chance at “institutionalizing revolution” a strong opposition led by a right-leaning party (Partido Acción Nacional–PAN) that had been denied access to power at the federal level was able to bring PRIismo to an end. A young (mostly middle class) generation filled with hope rallied behind soon-to-be-President Vicente Fox under the cry of “Sí se puede” (“Yes, we can”). And on July 2, 2000, yes, they did.
But the 2006 election was characterized by a polarized and heated debate between PAN candidate Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and a charismatic left-wing radical, Andrés Manuel López Obrador of the Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD). Left and right battled it out. One crying out against “the rich tyrants that oppressed the peoples” and the other promising that development would result from attracting FDI and promoting employment via a partnership with the private sector. Calderón got the job with 35.9 percent of the vote, only 0.58 percent more than López Obrador.
The aftermath of the 2006 election is well-known: López Obrador did not accept the results, labeled Calderón “The spurious president,” set up camp in Mexico City’s Zocalo, and blocked off Paseo de la Reforma (the city’s most important street).
Now there is a new twist in this long-standing political telenovela. The “Yes we can” promise has not produced expected results, leaving Mexicans disillusioned to the point that many believe the next elections will be a landslide. The assumed victor: the PRI.
But how is the incumbent PAN party preparing to avoid this? With the most unlikely (and ridiculous) of alliances. César Nava, national president of PAN has publicly accepted that his party is working on a deal with the PRD to have joint candidates for the upcoming state elections.
