Hector Beltran Leyva captured in San Miquel de Allende, State of Guanajuato, Mexico

________________________________________

Supposedly, various agencies were aware of the existence of, and residence by, Hector Beltran Leyva,  aka "El H" (in this case the 'H' is pronounce AH - chei, as a letter in the Spanish alphabet) in the famous and idyllic colonial town of San Miguel de Allende.  The Beltran Leyva people, as cartels have gone during the past ten years in Mexico, were thought to be the "aristocrats" of the general group of thugs who constitute that body of sub-humanity known as "the cartel".

El H's brother, known as Botas Blancas.....because he wore special white boots made from expensive leather...such as either mountain goat, albino elephant, Machu Pichu llama, ostrich or some such, depending upon which "corrido" being sung was setting the story straight.  It did not really matter, however, because the brother, Arturo, was killed not long ago in Cuernavaca, another pleasant place, but further south, below Mexico City.   We are not aware of whether or not he died with his boots on.

There were five brothers, at one time associated with Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in the western, coastal of State of Sinaloa, and Hector was the last one standing, but no longer.  Since he has already been convicted, en absentia, by several trials in Mexico for trafficking crimes and for many direct and indirect acts of murder, he is on his way to Almoloya Federal Maximum Security Prison.  While there, the American authorities, and perhaps the Colombian and some European governments might wish to request his extradition.   The United States, alone, had a five million dollar reward for "El H", while the Mexican central government had authorised  32,000,000 Mexican pesos "recompense" for information leading to, and resulting in the arrest of ...etc. etc.

One small detail on this matter was that Hector Beltran and another man were kept under observation for some time in San Miguel by an expert Army recon group, who took copious notes about the comings and going of associates, license plates, habits, and even conversations at bars and restaurants.   Beltran had managed to change his appearance considerably, and was operating as an art dealer and real estate agent under a carefully constructed alias.   He just couldn't stand hiding out in the jungle.  He liked the good life, and hobnobbing with the tourists, and doing the really excellent clubs, restaurants, and theme saloons in the quintessentially pleasant San Miguel de Allende....the town with no stop lights.

Speaking of lights, we'll leave it at that point....

More later, and thanks for being here.

Our sufferings today are the prelude of those you, Europeans and Western Christians, will also suffer in the near future. I lost my diocese. The physical setting of my apostolate has been occupied by Islamic radicals who want us converted or dead. But my community is still alive.

Please, try to understand us. Your liberal and democratic principles are worth nothing here. You must consider again our reality in the Middle East, because you are welcoming in your countries an ever growing number of Muslims. Also you are in danger. You must take strong and courageous decisions, even at the cost of contradicting your principles. You think all men are equal, but that is not true: Islam does not say that all men are equal. Your values are not their values. If you do not understand this soon enough, you will become the victims of the enemy you have welcomed in your home.

A suggestion to all OROGs, veterans and newly arrived

________________________________________________________

(This is an old advisory that we make every now and then. We make this suggestion with humility, but sincerity.  At times we burst out with a number of blog-entries.   Some are of more interest than others, depending upon the OROG.   But, reviewing just the first one might orphan others that have been done in the previous few hours.  Therefore this following suggestion is repeated from a previous date.)
___________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________

We forget, at times, to do a bit of self-promotion, especially if it benefits our clients and readership, loosely known as the OROG community.   The Order of the Readers of the Old Gringo is a growing group of grumpily pleasant people.  There are even a few who think they are liberals of some sort or another.
We have had the comment from one lady who indicated that she happened upon our blog and it made her so furious that she wanted to call her congressgirlyman.   But, she did not, and was strangely drawn back to the long, winding sentences with two dependent clauses and perhaps three independent clauses, silly pictures, and silly music....anger, humour, British spelling, Mexican-inflected commentary....historical orientations...and social analysis....and she decided that it was one of her favourite stops on the cyber-highway into the cloud after all.

Have Gun - Will Travel
We appreciate the open mind.  We also urge that the reader landing here for the first or early times to-day check back for a couple of weeks or maybe twenty or thirty entries as time permits to understand this blog.   It is both constant....riding along the right rail of the track, relying upon traditionalist guideposts for life....and somewhat eclectic, such as when we analyse by 360 degrees the issues surrounding Battle of the Alamo, or the Cinco de Mayo.   We also jump on the bones of Mexico and the Mexicans and can be one of  Mexico's and the Mexicans' best defenders, depending of course upon whether El Gringo Viejo believes them to be in error or correct.   El Gringo Viejo is the quintessential Texian.

We have a posse, each one is a Paladin with his own path, and all of whom have similar although not identical viewpoints who intermittently contribute writing that, alas, is as good or much better than my own.   While they might not be either gunfighters or one of the Twelve Knights of the Court of Charlemagne, of them all they all be qualified for either title.   So the reader is not doomed to the same source forever.
We even take our own to task, at times.  And, finally we draw liberally from source material that is used, with due credits, to augment understanding.   Once again....meander through our recent and ancient writings on the blog....communicate, preferably by e-mail, and feel at home here.

Thanks for your time and attention!

Making the Rounds of the Well-informed - a message from El Zorro

MAKE SURE YOU READ WHAT THE RETIRED OFFICERS HAD TO SAY
he picture is of the five first line US nuclear carriers docked together in one place, Just like Battleship Row, Pearl Harbor,
 December 7, 1941.
This picture was taken February 2014 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Obama ordered 5 nuclear carriers into harbor for "routine" (?) inspections.  Heads of the Navy were flabbergasted by

the directive but had to comply as it was a direct order from
 their Commander-in-Chief.

The carriers were all pulled out from the MIDDLE EAST and the Afghanistan support role leaving our land forces naked and exposed!

(The OROG is directed to the bottom of this post to a live
linkage to a striking picture of five flattops at rest in
sitting-duck formation. Thanks for your patience
with our production glitch.)

NORFOLK, VA. (February 8, 2014). This is the first time since WWII that five
nuclear powered aircraft carriers were docked together. USS Dwight D.
Eisenhower (CVN 69), USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), USS Enterprise (CVN 65), USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) are all in port at Naval Station Norfolk , Va. , the world's largest naval station.

Knowledgeable sources stated that this breached a long standing military
protocol in the Navy meant to avoid a massive
enemy strike on major US
forces.

Since Barack Obama has been in the White House, high ranking military
officers have been removed from their positions at a rate that is absolutely
unprecedented.

Things have gotten so bad that a number of retired generals are publicly
speaking out about the 'purge' of the U.S. military that they believe is
taking place. As you will see below, dozens of highly decorated military
leaders have been dismissed from their positions over the past few years.

So why is this happening? What is going on right now is absolutely crazy
especially during a time of peace. Is there a deliberate attempt to reshape
the military and remove those who don't adhere to the proper 'viewpoints' ?
Does someone out there feel a need to get officers that won't cooperate out
of the way?

Throughout world history, whatever comes next after a military purge is
never good.

> If this continues, what is the U.S. military going to look like in a few
> years?

Perhaps you are reading this and you think that 'purge' is too strong a word
for what is taking place. Well, just consider the following quotes from some
very highly decorated retired officers:

-Retired Army Major General Paul Vallely: The White House protects their
> own. That's why they stalled on the investigation into Fast and Furious,
> Benghazi and Obamacare. He's intentionally weakening and gutting our
> military, Pentagon and reducing us as a superpower, and anyone in the
> ranks who disagrees or speaks out is being purged.

Retired -Army Major General Patrick Brady: There is no doubt he (Obama) is
intent on emasculating the military and will fire anyone who disagrees with
him.

> -Retired Army Lt. General William G. Jerry Boykin: Over the past three
> years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be
> relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause.

> -Retired Navy Captain Joseph John: I believe there are more than 137
> officers who have been forced out or given bad evaluation reports so they
> will never make Flag (officer), because of their failure to comply to
> certain views.

A Pentagon official who asked to remain nameless because he was not
authorized to speak on the matter said even young officers, down through the
ranks have been told not to talk about Obama or the politics of the White
House. They are purging everyone and if you want to keep your job just keep
your mouth shut. Now this trend appears to be accelerating.

General Vallely's comment:
> Absolutely every communist regime on the planet did this as soon as they
> got in power.

Update on Texas withdrawal activity

_____________________________________________

Please understand that we do not equate the Scottish events with those in Texas.  Scotland has steadily devolved into a somewhat brutish, parasitic entity, drawing much from England and contributing back less.   It is consumed with notions of labour "rights" and the need for the "dole" and the glories of "free medical services".   While we laud, certainly, good wool and whiskey, the hauntingly pleasant sound of the pipes and the dragons in the lochs, Scotland is no longer a Refuge of Bravehearts.  It is now pretty much a dull, cold place full of Andy Capp-hearts waiting for the pub to open and the dole-check to come.

Texas on the other hand,  even with the inundation of the First Amnesty people from the 1987 period, is still a producer nation.  Even, or perhaps even especially, the native and legal and documented people of Latin origin in our political subdivision are in the producer column by a wide percentage.   Their military participation is, quite frankly, stunning.

______________________________________________

The following is an article from the most recent communique' coming out of the Texas re-independence cauldron.  The porridge continues to thicken.

Secession Poll Headlines Misleading Says TNM
(As readers of this blog know, El Gringo Viejo is an
advocate of as pacific a separation as possible.
He uses the term, "amicable withdrawal" in lieu of
secession)

A recent widely-disseminated poll on the issue of state secession has captured headlines around Texas and the United States. But those headlines are leaving a bad taste in the mouth of the Texas Nationalist Movement.
The recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, taken in the wake of the Scottish secession vote, asked one simple question - "Support or oppose the idea of your state peacefully withdrawing from the USA and the federal government?"
The results showed that 23.9% of the respondents supported independence for their state. This result spawned attention grabbing headlines.
"1 in 4 Americans Support Secession For Their State"

But this headline and the way that the results are being reported is misleading according to President of the Texas Nationalist Movement Daniel Miller.
"While the realization the a full quarter of 'Americans' believe in independence for their state is earth shattering, the real bombshell is hidden beneath that number."
Miller says this poll has one serious issue and believes the real story exists in how the respondents in each separate state answered the question.

"When Texas makes a decision on independence for their state, it will be up to the people of Texas alone to decide." (emphasis by El Gringo Viejo)

The raw data, obtained from Reuters seems to tell a different story for Texas than the rest of America. When data from the respondents in Texas is tallied, the real "bombshell" drops.

In a state where Republicans and Independents make up the vast majority of the electorate, 51% of those groups support the independence of Texas. Even 25% of Democrats support Texas independence. There is also an additional 20% undecided.  (emphasis by El Gringo Viejo)

Much like Research 2000 poll on the same issue took liberties with the breakdowns by political affiliation, this poll does likewise. Miller believes that the pundits are to blame.
"The numbers available to the TNM are available to the media. I cannot imagine that the media and the pundits missed this. Rather, they cannot accept that the people of Texas are supporting the TNM and Texas independence in growing numbers. They are hitting the panic button."

Back Again, a few notes and observations

_______________________________________

Rio Corona
rising quite quickly

We arrived yesterday, early-afternoon,  without event, and only a minimal amount of wait at the bridge....perhaps 90 seconds.    You all can see the effects of about 26 inches of rains that fell right on us at the Quinta over the 3 week period, and what was probably 90 - 100 inches in the nearby mountains.

BeBe (l) and Prieto
The Rio Corona rose, and was flowing vigorously, roaring with laughter so to speak, for my entire stay.  BeBe took advantage, and  did laugh to see such sport, but instead of jumping over the moon with the cow, he just decided to do some body-rafting in the 20 mph current.

Behind BeBe is his 6 month old son, Prieto (Darkie).....whose mother is one-half Rhodesian Lion Hound.   Just love dogs....they are so....smelly and hungry and loud....and clumsy.   But at least they only require 40 hours a day care, feeding, medical services, and grief counselling.
It is truly a great time to be a dog during these days with their chilly mornings and warm afternoons.   There is not a lot more to report about such things, beyond a bit of repair work and redecorating.
The boss wanted a nice, but very heavily framed print to hang in the guest room.   It proved to be a bit of a challenge, but one must always remember the rule:   In Mexico they can foul up any easy job, but the impossible things they seem to accomplish quite easily.  It's almost not a joke.   Diana found this item at a nearby estate sale.  The children had taken things that had interest and meaning to them, and sold the rest to friends and other folks who came by to give new life to the possessions in another home-setting.   Perhaps, if they happen across this page, they will see how nice their mother's print looks in its fancy, rustic adobe room overlooking  the Rio Corona, and that opens onto a magnificent view of the mountains of the Sierra Madre.

Our avocado tree produced a medium harvest
of very high quality.  The dogs would eat the
fallen fruit by preference.  The lure of protein
and the famous oils seems to please them, and
they are adept at peeling the skins with their teeth.

Things come to mind when one wanders through a daily routine of un-planned urgencies, semi-postponed minor projects, moving pictures around on walls to have a different "look" for the rooms, and the like.   The things that come to mind have been a bit burdensome, quite frankly.   For instance, there is this mess brought on by dolts who could fall for a platform clarion of "hope and change" in 2008, and "get your revenge by voting" in 2012.

It becomes increasingly clear that the process of returning to the well full of salty water each time there is some kind of social or economic thirst, real or imagined.... the thirst is never quenched.  We have cobbled together, from what was once a Republic, what is now a drab, grey portrait of the ruins that come from the  muddy puddles of leftist thought:   Fabian Socialism, German National Socialism, Bolshevik Socialism, American Progressivism, atheism, nihilism, Latin American social democracy projects, liberation theology, and assorted other income and property re-distribution plans and causes.
The willingness of pseudo-conservatives to be "reasonable" in the face of ridiculous compromises is what has brought us repeatedly to that oasis of salty water.   Shovel ready jobs, a form of "Let them eat cake" and other Roosevelt Depression recovery disasters-cum-institutions, and government-funded research and discovery funding always fails.  Even when there are a few positive results, the cost effectiveness is wildly out of line with any reasonable measure of  return on investment.   While the NASA projects have much nobility and accomplishment, please do not tell this writer, "It was all worth it!  Just think, we got Tang and Corningware!".

Return on investment by the willingness to compromise by conservatives and pseudo-conservatives has brought us Head Start, food stamps, Medicaid,  and Solyndra.  Windmills making electricity save the planet by killing all the raptors who fly with their gazes fixed on the ground, not on the flight-path ahead.

13,000 killed
Conservatives willing to be reasonable have to compromise with people who point out that Hurricane Sandy is proof of "Global Warming and Cooling and Climate Change" when, in truth, it was a relatively dull little storm (Category I) whose strength was maximised by the sloth of a fire department that failed to shut down electrical transmission in an area of very concentrated, closely situated frame homes.  That juxtaposition of contributing agents fuelled one another due to live wires and exploding "pots" (transformers).  The "Mrs. O'Grady's Cow" effect took place, valiant firemen served in miserable conditions, and both the New York and Chicago situations, in their own time and place, were disasters.

The fact is that "global climate change" had nothing to do with the damage caused by a minimal hurricane.  The fact is that Christie - Obama huggy-wuggy moments do not hasten, but in fact, delay recovery.   And for this we seek compromise, reasonable bi-partisanship, a role for government as the supply source for the solution to every problem no matter how small or large.   And now the number is $18,000,000,000,000 (and counting) that we pass on to our grandchildren and beyond.

It is quite evident that big business, big labour, big government, and big dull academia have willingly and stupidly stumbled us down a path to totalitarian, humanist egalitarianism that will replace certainly and soon any vestige of republican democracy.  In its place we shall be given a Brave New World of social democracy wherein (Sir Edmund) Hillary will dispense to us that which we need, and exact from us that which she deigns we must render.

More later.   Thanks for tuning in again.
